Skoda Octavia III rear axle

HI!

 

What does the rear suspension depend on? equipment, year, etc... ?
I have seen two types and they were not all-wheel drive.

Hello, welcome to the forum. The 1st image is the torsion beam rear axle fitted to smaller engined vehicles, I believe that the 2nd image is the multi-link, IRS version fitted to the VRS.

I understand, and can the torsion be replaced by multi-link, plug and play?

I'd have thought it would be highly unlikely - looking at the two setups, the mountings appear to be quite different.

Although the torsion beam setup gets a fair bit of stick from some quarters - it should be noted that a recently produced hyper car uses it.

There is likely a strict line much like the dsg types and engine output. All VRS and 4x4 models have independent rear end. My 2.0 TDI elegance had torsion beam. It performed very well with B6 shocks and eibach pro springs.

As far as I know, all models with smaller than 2.0 engines have torsion beam. With maybe the exception of 1.8. I'm not familiar with that setup.

 

Technically the IRS could be swapped into a torsion beam car as they share MQB body design. It's a big job though and not worth the effort. Needs some points welded on and some others cut away.

Yes, that's what I'm thinking about now, with eibach springs and B6 shock absorbers.
And even rear torsion beam polyurethane bush.

150ps and below was TB. 151ps+ was IRS. 

 

Im 95% sure that was the figures banded about anyway. 

Wasn't always the case that IRS was fitted to the higher power cars though, I work on a MK2 1.9TDi Ambient or Elegance (can't remember which spec now) hatch that has it.

My MK2 1.9pd estate ambient had the IRS.

With the standard 16 inch wheels it was the best ride on Aussie dirt roads. Should have got a Scout with the extra ground clearance as well but out of our budget unfortunately.

Yes that's right but this is the mk3 section.
