Bye bye vRS - Hello VR6 :D

Featured Replies

Well, my MK2 GTI is back on the road now, and I'm enjoying driving it. I'm averaging over 40mpg, and tbh its good cheap motoring.

So, the vRS is going back to standard and handed back to the lease company. Hence all of my for sale threads (more to come btw).

This will leave me substantially better off, and have plenty of money to fund a car I have always wanted - a Corrado VR6. :)

The Fabia is great fun, but ultimately really not that quick. The 2.0LX (petrol) Mondeo I'm driving at the moment is only an average 1mph slower than my remapped vRS on my favourite stretch of twisties - the bumps really unsettle the Furby and ultimately its far too bouncy. The Fabia doesn't seem to have much character - and the big thing is that I dont actually own it.

So once its back to standard, the hunt for a good original late Corrado VR6 with leather and a/c will start. Woo hoo! :)

Good luck with the search. A guy at work found an absolute mint 2.0 and it's a beautiful car. Apparently the last owner cried as he drove it away...

What about? http://www.edition38.com/board/viewtopic.php?t=48220&highlight=corrado+vr6

Maybe not got the AC though...

Might take you a while to find the right one, but with something like this you'll need to be patient - the right one will come along, eventually :)

Steve

could you buy it from the lease company and sell it privately, to me??

Heretic! Burn him, burn him! :grumpy:

:hilarius:

Not many Corrado's out there with A/C.

When i bought my one 4 years ago(now sold regretably)

i looked at 9 before i found the right one and not one had A/C.

So don't hold your breath.

And buy one that has been left standard and then leave it standard, they look better that way.

Good luck though you won't regret it,i loved mine to bits and wished i could have kept it.

Sure could, PM me your phone number and I'll have a chat with you. :)

It will be standard apart from the remap though. ;)

I must say, finding one with a/c could be a bit of a challenge. I will definitley look into retrofitting it though - I think they were all dealer fit (Diavia?) anyway.

Thanks for the support guys! I really can't wait. I'm prepared to pay top dollar for the right example - looking for pretty standard with leather, full history, 120k or less miles and with really nice bodywork - must be a nice colour too! I'm in no hurry, and there is a lot of overpriced rubbish out there too. I think it could be a long hunt.

Found out I need to budget to have chains & tensioners, full re-bush and probably top mounts too... not that its a problem. :)

I also see it as a wee investment too - they really are holding value well, and methinks if its kept standard and cherished then theres no reason it will never depreciate.

Nice choice Tom! Corrado's are very nice cars indeed! Just make sure you get an alarm and tracker fitted on the way back from buying it, unless you plan to keep it in a garage! A mate has had one for 5 years now and he's had it nicked and recovered 3 times.

Why not get the bigger, more reliable, lower mileage, newer, more practical, more economical, cheaper to insure, cheaper to run Mondeo 2.0 you've been on about?

The Fabia doesn't seem to have much character

Not completely convinced the Mondeo has more character than a Corrado. :D

just watch those hight milege VR6's are expensive to maintain

great cars tho :D you will enjoy alot!

good luck with the search

VR6's also sound very very nice with a filter and exhaust.

A drive bollard seems to work quite well as a defence too, but well the tracker is pretty much a must on a car like that.

Tracker would be fitted - I want to get insurance! lol.

Goochie - behave. I'm not raving about the Mondeo - just a "passing comment" on how despite the defecit in power etc, its as quick as my vRS as it handles bumps with ease.

No Scrub that......All Corrado's are expensive to maintain

At the Mo' date=' Late Golf VR6's seem to be fetching more money than C's especially Highlines!

Tom you are correct, Diavia Air Con was Dealer fit only! Pretty rare and can be a complete nightmare! If you find a nice C with it, then it's a bonus but don't let a nice C without it fall through your fingers just cos "You must have A/C"

Check out the buying guide on [url']http://the-corrado.net[/url] which can be found here:

Also the forum is a good place to find a well cared for and reasonably priced C!

Good luck with your hunt, if you have any questions about them feel free to drop me a pm

Ain't that the truth!:D

Been there, done that!

No thank you - unless it was for free & Lookers were very generous with their discount! :D

Nice choice Tom  . These cars are true modern classics.

My only concerns would be the crash safety of a 10 year old car (albeit a VW) and watch out for coolant problems as some models were plagued by them. There was also a recall IIRC to replace the cooling fan which had a tendancy to drop out when driving along  .

Nice one! Corrados do cost a bit to keep going, but they can handle the miles very well, as long as they're looked after. My last VR6 had 210K on the clock, and the latest owner has taken it to over 230k without a single problem.

I would keep it pretty standard apart from the suspension. Get yourself some Koni TAs and H&R springs. Ride comfort isn't compromised, yet the handling and looks are much improved. The standard suspension, especially on late VR6s looks ridiculous.

I read somewhere that A/C was dealer fit in Germany, only on left hookers.

I agree though don't let that put you off, anyway why have all the windows up when you're rippigng through the gears. You WANT to hear that loveeeeeeeeeeeeeerly V6 sing.

Des

I'm actually partial to the Supercharged 1.8, which has been touched by Jabba :)

There were defo a few right handers that got the optional A/C too.

VW have cheated on the V6 thing a bit though when you think about it. The 2 banks of cylinders are only 15 degrees apart to get away with using a single head so it's a cross between a straight six and a V6 really.

Not Cheating, it is a proper V6 just a novel way of getting V6 power in a small space VR stand for Vee-Rheinmotor or Narrow Vee BTW:D
