Notchy gear change

Featured Replies

Having just purchased a 1.5tsi scala manual we have noticed a notchy gear change from 1st to 2nd when cold. Car is only 13 months old with 9000 miles. Spoke to a friend who is a mechanic who tells me skoda issued a tpi covering this but he no longer has access to.it. anyone have the tpi or experiencing the same issue please?.

Not experienced that. The selector did take three to four thousand miles to free up though. Doubt if it’s anything major.

@lee8810 Ask at a Skoda dealership on Monday.

Get them to book the car in for the repair / Workshop action under the warranty.

Hi, my 2020 plate 1.5 TSi manual with 22K miles doesn't have a notchy gear change but it does have hesitation and loss of power between 1st and 2nd gear changes that's worse when cold, that might be the same fault you have.

Also a slight hiccup when dropping two cylinders.

I thought it was me losing the ability to drive a manual as since I bought the car a year ago it's been so hard to drive smoothly in low gear so I was sort of pleased to find out that there's a known fault on the 1.5 engine with manual 'box.

It was a huge issue for 1.5s built before 2019 and two ECUupdates were issued by Skoda appeartenly.

However Skoda say that a 2020 car had the correct software from the factory and my local dealer technician said it's the same as the other 1.5 he tested that day.

I'm trying to find out what software my ECU has to confirm but that not easy as the dealer wants to charge me an hour's labour to plug a box into the OBD port, not even fix it if it's wrong.

I'm looking for an OBD reader that can tell me this so if anyone has a recommendation I'd be interested.

Next step will be either a fix under warranty (hopefully), a Racechip plug in, a remap or just sell the car!
