Brand New and Android Auto Issue

Featured Replies

Hi,

My wife and I collected our brand new Skoda Karoq SportLine last week. Were happy with it but straight away weve been having an issue in that android auto would only connect for a few seconds, the disconnect and wont reconnect again. Very frustrating. This is wireless connection by the way.

You can imagine I was even more frustrated when I dropped by the dealership to find out if I was doing something wrong for them to then tell me “Yes it appears to be a problem with a lot of them at the moment coming from Skoda”.

Bit frustrated they didnt mention this before I purchased!!

Nothing they can do to fix it at the moment and all they can say is that Skoda are aware of the problem but theres no fix, and no ETA on any fix.

Ive been looking online and found numerous posts from people with the same issue as far back as Summer last year. My worries and concerns are that Im just going to be left waiting for a fix with this and it will never be there. Android auto is really quite important to me for my driving and use it constantly.

So I’m just wondering really if anyone has any more information on this issue and whether Skoda are actually trying to fix this as it appears the dealership dont know anything and cant/wont assist me.

Thanks

Check everything is up to date. I had the same issue with Android auto but about a month ago the car downloaded and installed a large update all by itself. Couldn't be driven for 20 minutes whilst it did the update so you'll know it's doing it.

The fix for Android Auto that works for most people is when the infotainment system software updates itself to version 0330.

As updates happen over the air, the dealers don't get involved if they can help it, and many of them don't understand the issue.

My wife's car spent an entire week saying 'Software update in progress' and there was nothing I could do to control that.  When the update finally completed, Android Auto worked properly for the very first time.

The whole update system is really badly implemented, but you can hope things will resolve at some point. In fact, hope is all you can do,

By the way, Skoda absolves itself of all responsibility by saying in all the brochures and other publicity for many months that Apple Carplay works wirelessly but Android Auto works wired. If you were to complain to Skoda UK I think you'd be told you are asking for a feature that was not offered. Neverthless they have been working, belatedly, to fix it.

Connecting via cable should get you going while you wait,

Thanks very much for your help, more helpful than the dealers who simply told me to mention the issue to them again when the car is due a service in 2 years…almost laughable really.

Is there a way for me to get the update to start?

thanks

My Android Auto would only work on the cable until the big update, now it seems to work cable free all the time.

My download started automatically,  might be worthwhile checking that you have the data "globe" in grey at the top of the infotainment screen showing that it's enabled. If it isn't, it's red I think.

You can look at Settings - System Information - Update Software to see whether any update is ready for you. But if it isn't, all you can do is wait. And when it is your turn, you'll be notified anyway.

To be fair, this is no worse as an approach than it is with most mobile phone OS updates. What makes it annoying is that Skoda seems to have cheaped out on renting bandwidth so that some people have to wait a very long time for their turn to update.
