Octavia VRS iV Airbag light

Featured Replies

Hi guys:

I'm hoping one of you on here is a genius because I'm not. Picked up a new Octavia VRS iV Hybrid PHEV two weeks ago and Sunday just gone, decided to try and install a hardwired dash cam cable. I'd watched a video where someone says you open the passenger door and pull out the piece of trim with the passenger airbag disable switch is. I pulled it out but to give me more room, I disconnected the switch. The thing is, this being a hybrid or whatever, it was sort of on. So now when we press the ignition button we get a bong and a warning on the dash that says air bag error.

I assume this is because the car did a check whilst I was messing and it didn't like what I was doing.

So I bought this https://www.amazon.co.uk/dp/B07WT82MT4?ref=ppx_yo2ov_dt_b_product_details&th=1 and installed the app on my phone. When I connect with it on my phone, there aren't any error codes to clear. So the question is: what do I do, other than take it back to Skoda and play dumb.

Thanks in advance

Rich

Buy a better fault code reader with the ability to communicate with the airbag control module and reset the latching airbag error code, VCDS will do it, others may advise on the cheapest alternative.

Yes, I had the same problem once, I had to remove the lateral panel with the airbag switch. I did a full scan followed by a clear all ECU errors with OBDEleven and the issue was solved.

I would recommend to go to the dealer and tell them about the situation, so that they can erase the error themselves. Otherwise, clearing errors yourself may void the warranty.
