Water in Engine oil!

Featured Replies

Hi All,

I have a September 2023 Skoda Superb 2.0lt Diesel Auto Style, Currently have 40000 kms.

Just before the 30,000km service I noticed water on the Dipstick and brown paste (Oil and water mix) as well.

I told the service centre and the said they resealed the Dipstick tube at service.

Issue has arisen again. I have it booked with Local Skoda Dealer which cant take the car for over 4 weeks.

I do approx 1200kms per week so engine is running optimal most of the time.

Has any else had this issue?

If you remove the oil filler cap. what does that look like?

Have you had to top up engine coolant at all?

Oil Cap is Black as expected.

Coolant level is perfect, never used a drop

I’m guessing your dealer is DMG on the N15?
Any indicator of emulsification like that on your dipstick is bad news and, potentially, a terminal issue. Did you ask them if they flushed the engine when they changed the oil at 30k?
Also, did you ask them how water would enter through a loose dipstick tube?
How often do you check the oil level?

Has there been no signs of emulsification until your latest check?

Loose dipstick tube 🥴 that is service receptionist bull**** 101.

Do not drive the car one more mile, have the oil drained, the engine run for 30 minutes on flushing oil and then a oil and filter change and monitor the oil condition like a hawk.

What is your usual journey profile?

Does the car warm up quickly and the heater work correctly?

A warranty can only be extended to 100,000 miles. With your annual mileage i would be concerned they are trying to kick the can down that road.

Are they suggesting it's condensation?

If you wipe it off and dip again what does it look like?

Car does 3 - 4 long days per week, 300 - 500 kms on them days. 2 hours steady driving then 6 - 8 hours stop start then 2 hours home. But Engine heats up normal and doesnt cool much in them days. Heater and all that works perfect.

So the Dublin dealer has not investigated the water ingress issue any further? Are you now waiting for the outcome of tests VAG will undertake on the oil? Is that what the dealer told you they’d do? I ask as I’d be a bit sceptical on that one! You said in your original post it is booked in with your local dealer, so are DMG aware of the issue? Either way, I’d be making a huge fuss about it, because at best it could leave you stranded at the roadside and at worst, you could suffer an engine seize and a potential accident as a result.

Suggest to investigating technician that oil sample be analysed.

Dealer has looked at it and repored to VAG. There has been issues with low milage engines doing this. Like all warranties now it all has to be reported to Manufacture then they come back with the next steps for the technician to check.. They will be kept under pressure for it.

If the person is the Tech or Master Tech that says 'There has been issues with low mileage engines doing this', be sure to get their name and actual job because i am sure there will be those having the issue of you that might want that information incase they need to raise some action against Skoda / VW Group.

If it is a Service Manage, Service Desk Staff or Sales Executive get their name as well.   All good for anyone dealing with Skoda / VW.

…which yours is not, of course.

I cannot see any acceptable reason for a regularly serviced engine, in good condition and using the correct oil to do this.

H2o  from external sources into the Engine.       (Not into the door inner's, or the rear or front carpets or spare tyre well..   Skoda characteristics, now that is common.)

Fording and water into Air Filter and to engine.

Well the Air filter gets wet.  The engine might then Hydraulic lock.)

Deep enough for the Dip Stick tube with no dipstick in to suck in water like down a straw.

No dip stick or loose.  A driver knows they did that!

Some muppet at a service or anyone, topping up the coolant into the oil filler hole having taken off the cap.     Now that is a favourite.

And the OP is not only still driving the car like that but doing a couple of thousand kms per week and is going to continue doing so for 4 weeks , I pity whoever ends up with this vehicle when they knock it out.

Any responsable garage would not have let the customer leave the premises with the vehicle and would not even have started the engine until it had been flushed and refilled with fresh oil and a new filter, and then watched the oil quality like a hawk over a decent mileage before handing it back.

Or screenwash.

Scented windscreen wash  to freshen the tail pipe emissions,

which are nothing really because of the Adblue (urea)  and the special 0w 20 FS IV oil for the WLTP certification runs.
