How small is the 12v battery on the iv?

Featured Replies

Been sitting this morning with the ignition on listening to the radio for about 35 minutes and a message has come up that the 12v battery is low.

thought it would be using the main battery that still has over 50% charge.

does the battery in the iv have a lower capacity

Any 12V systems, like the radio, run off the 12V battery not the HV traction battery.

It is a bit stupid that even having fully charged HV battery, small one may go completely flat. But it is how it is. Control module which charges 12V battery is being fed by the same battery, so when it dies, there is no way to take some current from HV, generator or plug to recharge it.

Which is exactly why a BEV can lock you out or fail to be able to start when the battery goes flat & the Traction / HV battery has plenty electricity in it.

(An issue that affected ID.3,s early on.)

I do not even get 35 minutes of radio listening in BEV,s i have driven, sat in.  They shut down much sooner unless plugged in an charging.

  • 3 weeks later...

I get the warning quite often. A few months ago I had to call Skoda assist as the 12v was flat and the Hv port lock had stopped working (common issue!) luckily this happened at home

Now I still get low 12v at least once a week; usually on days where I don’t charge hv overnight. 🤷🏼‍♂️

That’s interesting as I had that yesterday morning.

problem is, if you leave it a couple of days you could come out with a flat battery
