Deisel Particulte filter

Recommended Posts

Hi, I have just purchased a Skoda fabia estate, when I turn it on, it says change/service the deisel particulate filter, can anyone give advice on weather using a cleaning solution or paying a company to clean it is worth doing first, before replacing it, they are extremely expenive to replace, around  £500, ouch? Any advice appreciated

Its Fabia 1.6 TDI 2014 MODEL

When I drive up hills the power drops off big time. I have driven the car from London to Cornwall and it did not regen?

Also, its at 68000 miles, has no service history, should I do a major service or take it to a mechanic?

Welcome .

No idea about the PDF, but someone will be along.

If you know what you are doing you need to do a MAJOR Inspection and see what needs Servicing & Maintenance.

Do the brakes need stripping / cleaning / serviced, the brake fluid, are the wiper, tyres etc OK.  Suspension all good etc.

Coolant a good strength.

So basically a Proper Major Service over and above oil & filter.    Maybe the cambelt is OK, water pump. Maybe already replaced.

OK, so what is a the major service you speak of or going to a mechanic.   It is the DPF issue that you need addressed.

Skoda UK,s Main Dealer Servicing is not much these days & was not when it was Minor & Major Servicing, at 10 year old go by how you use or abuse it.

The car hasn't been doing enough miles to keep the DPF clean, 68k in 10 years is very low which would suggest it's been used as a shopping trolley.

I imagine the EGR valve is completely blocked so no regen will be possible until that's cleaned along with the DPF.

1st thing to do is get the car scanned with a Audi/VW/Skoda compatible OBD reader. Fall off in performance under load may point to blocked DPF or even exhaust silencer.

I would suggest as a cheap starting point trying one of the aerosol DPF cleaners, I have used one branded as Simple which involved taking the larger - in the case of my 1.4 TDI Greenline - pipe off the DPF differential pressure switch and spraying the product down that line. There could also be an issue with the differential pressure switch itself if it is not seeing an increased pressure differential pressure across the DPF which I understand is what triggers the regen.

Ok thank you for your advice, a friend has a reader, I’ll check if it’s compatible. Good call on the exhaust silencer, the bracket on the one side of the exhaust box have come loose and perhaps caused some internal damage. I will also try the DPF cleaner, is the brand called Simple? How do I know if it’s a differential pressure switch issue ? Thanks for your help, much appreciated
