Intermittent ABS Light - Any help please?

Featured Replies

Hi all,

Been lurking on briskoda a while, before I bought the car I have and the community seems to be a great one.

My 09 Fabia MK2 2 1.4 16V has an intermittent ABS light.

I’ve tested the ABS it works when the light is off but not with the light on.

I have ordered an OBD2, and will check it some more this weekend when it turns up.

I have two questions:

1. has anyone experienced similar and what was your solution - how much did it cost you in the end 😂?

2. Does anyone know if you disable a fault code from the OBD2 how long it will stay cleared for?

any and all help appreciated, thanks for reading :)

Yes had this issue after getting a front cv joint replaced at a garage, they had damaged the abs sensor , after a few jobs of cleaning the sensor pick ups and cleaning the hub rings i went down the line of testing the abs sensor with a multi meter when the abs light was on   dissconnecter each sensor and put the meter wires on the connecter part that goes to the sensor put the meter to reistance circuit test mine bleeps when the circuit is made the meter should show reistance then none resistance then none when spinning the wheel/hub it was then i noticed that the front hub sensor was not doing this when the light was on so changed that one and the issue went away don't know if this will help but worth a shot before spending loads on other things

I experience the same. I find that as soon as the light comes on I kill the ignition at the first opportunity and the light resets on turning the ignition back on. it can stay out for a couple of days or a couple of months. I put it down to a dodgy connection somewhere.

I hope that when you wrote that you had ordered an OBD2, that you ordered one that can talk to all this car's controllers, if it is just a basic OBD2 scan tool, I'd think that it will only read some engine fault codes.

Hopefully you got a suitable scan tool and that has revealed what the ABS fault code is.

In all honesty, if your not going to buy a decent scan tool that will diagnose and clear the fault, then you might as well pay a garage for an hours labour to plug in and tell you what the fault is.

All good points here, I’m glad you’ve made them as I did buy a £15 ‘OBD2’ reader which didn’t actually do abs codes 🤣 have now upgraded to one that does, and tracked to a wheel speed sensor, cleared for now

The best low cost scan tool I could find for my old Fabia was an X-tool one. I think it was something like a 401 for VAG. Cars. After having a rear nearside sensor issue on and off for ages, even having a specialist fit a genuine sensor, (ABS light came on around 2 miles later) This tool operated a check test and cleared the fault. Never returned after that.
