1.9 bkc coolant temperature sensor

Featured Replies

Hi can any inform me of how many coolant temperature sensors there are on a 2005 1.9tdi bkc engine and any pictures of location please.

Thank you

Does the car have air conditioning?

If so it has 2, according to parts catalogue,  one identified as G62 (typically located on engine itself on a coolant flange). The other is G83, known as radiator outlet temperature sensor, typically mounted in a connection to the radiator bottom hose.

Both are part number 06A919501A.

What problem are you trying to solve?

Thanks for replying. Car has a/c. struggles to start when hot. brilliant when cold. So thought I start with the easiest solution.

G62 here, I think:

Inadequate cranking speed can inhibit hot start on some diesels, not sure if BKC is one of them, nor the solution.

Thanks I'll look in to that

I think the BKC is one afflicted by that stupid pointless programming.

OTOH it has 2 camshaft sensors so really can start in a quarter of a turn as we say in France, OK half a turn for the BKC and during that angular rotation the ECU will have no RPM input from the crank sensor, mine would always start in half a turn even a very lazy half a turn with a flat battery but I think if it cranked any longer the nonsense software would have inhibited it from firing.

Yes BKC has hot start problem but its a symptom of the engine not spinning fast enough

the ecu is programmed to start injection on hot engine (over 70C) at 280rpm

Below is the hot start map from my tdi golf and you can see that below 20C it starts injection as soon as the engine starts to rotate, as the temperture rises so does the rpm required for the

ecu to start injection, above 70C it needs 280 rpm for injection to start

The cure is a new battery or starter motor or you can change the values highlighted in red below to 150 and get injection as soon as the engine starts to rotate

Left column is engine RPM

Top row is coolant temperature

The other values are injection quantity
