Golf GTI exhaust

Featured Replies

Evening ladies & gents.

I’ve owned a vRS 245 for nearly 2 years. Love the car and it will be a keeper for the foreseeable. A small area of disappointment has been the sound it makes. The artificial engine noise is awful and I always have it turned off, but the natural engine sound is quite flat. A chap up the road has a Golf GTI Performance 245 and that sounds lovely when he starts up and drives off. My question is, can I recreate that in my car? Would a GTI rear exhaust section fit the vRS and produce the same sound or is there an aftermarket exhaust that would give a bit more of a sporty sound without any boom or NVH like the Golf owner enjoys as standard?

Are you sure his exhaust is standard?

There are many options for exhaust systems in full and part, and while I can't recommend any personally I'm sure someone will be along to guide you soon.

Be sure to check out the "Projects" section and try a search using the site search or Google to find what you're looking for.

What year is your 245? Does it have a GPF?

If no gpf then you could go for a resonator delete. That's what I've done and I'm very happy with the sound now.

It’s a 2019 GPF. Thanks for your recommendation.

Look at remus or fox exhausts, they have adaptable mufflers or full custom exhausts

@vladRS I’m in exactly the same situation. I’ve been looking at the following Resonated Milltek Cat Back but it’s pricey.

The non-res version is about £300 cheaper however I’d rather avoid it being excessively noisy and the drone that would inevitably come with it. After more of an OEM+ feel to the car.

Unfortunately I haven’t come across anyone with either fitted for a comparison.

Thanks @CookieMonster87 OEM+ is a great description of what I am after. Thanks for the link.

Hi I would go with full system down pipe miltek. With resonator. Don't delete that as it really does drone. I have the full system sounds amazing on a stage 4 estate vrs

I agree, I had a non-res Milltek on a previous car and the drone was so bad I had to add the resonator after a couple of months.

Switch OFF the soundikator. You can do this via ODBELEVEN dongle

I cant recommend it as I havent done it, but Id consider a backbox delete. Its unlikely to make it drony as the resonator changes the sound and deleting that would make it drone, the backbox is likely to reduce volume and with the OPF it will be quiet. Also, if done correctly you should be able to sleeve the original pipes to refit the stock backbox if you ever want to go back to stock. Id imagine someone has done this before, maybe worth Youtubing it?
