Head Unit Swap

Featured Replies

Hello everyone,

I just recently thinking about changing my factory head unit in my 2019 Skoda Rapid that doesn't support Android Auto.

I have a swing unit with 3 buttons on each side, and there is no Smartlink icon in the menu and there are no APP, NAV etc. buttons on it and as far as I know there is no chance to install Android Auto to this unit via software upgrade or with some kind of moduls without replace my factory head unit.

So I'm just curious what are your thoughts about it? Do you guys know any way to get the Android Auto to this head unit? And is it possible if I buy a second hand Skoda MIB2.5 unit can it be installed to place where my factory head unit is? Is there enough space for it? How do I know what size of units will fit in it?

I know I have a lot of questions (and maybe dumb ones) but thanks in advance for your responses!

I put a floating screen Sony in mine for around 650 including all trim, facia and steering wheel remote converter. £30 for a decent DAB antenna from the flea bays completes the Android auto system. One can purchase cheaper, but I've not come across any I would use. A decent set of speakers up front plus sound deadening material would set you back £125+. The amp and sub in my old Rapid spaceback are in the process of being reinstalled as I had a rattle! (Genesis five point one and Alpine Type R 10" DVC)  Excuse the mess, and they added a couple of grand to the install!

Go nuts by all means, but a brand name Android head unit plus fitting kit will set you back at least £600. Car stereo security in London are my go to guys for audio.  😅
