Thule Wingbar Width

Featured Replies

Good day all, I've recently picked up a 2021 Octavia Estate 1.4iv. I have a set of Thule Wingbars that I used on my Fabia that are 127cm long, I have asked Thule about compatibility with these on the Octavia and they have said that they only advise to use the 118cm.

The bars are slotted underneath for fitting different mounting kits, on my Fabia I am near the middle of this slot, I have a feeling they might have enough adjustment to allow me to fit to the Octavia.

I'm wondering if anyone of you lovely people out there that have wingbars on an Octavia would be able to measure the distance inside the clamping brackets required?  Then I can check and see if there would be enough adjustability ahead of buying the foot kit.

I am aware that I will need to get a new mounting kits for the bars.

Thanks for the help.

This may not be of any help, but I have a generic set of bars and the first thing I noticed is that the roof rails on Octavia Mk4 are closer together at the rear of the roof than at the front, by quite a few mm. I can get both to fit the different widths since there is enough adjustment in the slots, I don't know how the scope of that adjustment compares with the Thule brand though, same may apply to the mounts.

On advice from roofbox.co.uk, I opted for the 118cm bars and have found them to be too narrow. For me, I need to carry a canadian canoe and a kayak (on its side) and I can just about fit them on but with very little to spare. Not even enough to secure paddles to the roofbars.

I have wondered if I could fit 127cm bars so am interested to find out. I'll mount the 118cm bars and take some photos & measurements later.

Thanks, yeah I'm aware they advise the narrow bars and it might be with reason but it would be great if I can reuse the bars and save some space.

Think it just means a little more overhang on the cars. I had it on my old Skoda MK3. The Thule bars should have enough room in groove to handle the extra 5cm. However the MK3 was same length for front and rear bar. MK4 is shorter on back which might cause issues.

I luckily picked up some official Skoda ones from eBay for my mk4. Ended up cheaper than the foot pack

I had a shorter rear bar on my mk3, using Thule Wingbar Edges. It was supplied like that and listed as the S/M option by Thule.
However when I came to eBay them after getting my MK4 I was treated with a lot of suspicion, I don't think it's a well known concept 😄

G'day mate. I have 127cm wingbars on my Occy. Rear bar is 920mm between clamps, front 970mm between clamps. Hope this helps.

Thank you very much. I will double check on my bars but this looks very promising.

Thanks for everyone's help. Can confirm that 127cm bars fit without issue. PXL_20240618_171236575.thumb.jpg.c18659d3640239f2e6b94ca71e6a221d.jpgPXL_20240618_171225409_MP.thumb.jpg.42f4766af9ee79be6b6d261a0892f46d.jpg
