Scala 1.5 tsi Montecarlo 2024: airbag error

Featured Replies

Hi all!

My Scala is barely two months old. Everything was going perfectly until, suddenly, an error text appeared in the cockpit when starting the vehicle. The message "Error: airbag" is displayed. And the corresponding yellow warning light remains on until the engine is turned off.

I have checked the connections under the front seats but everything seems ok.

Anyone ever happened something similar? Any ideas? Thank you!

Visit your dealer for them to check it - they will identify the fault code and work out what has caused it.

Take it to the dealers.

I've had exactly the same thing happen on my 24 Scala, only 3 weeks old, took it to the dealers yesterday, with the airbag error and also mentioned that the rear seatbelts had to be plugged in all the time, or they ping at you and flash the seatbelt sign on the dash.

They put the computer on and came back to say that it is a software error that Skoda are aware of, Skoda say it is not due to any faulty parts and they are aware of more cars with this problem, and are working on a software fix for both these things, as they are interconnected through the software.

They cleared the air bag error for now and have told me there are other cars at this dealership waiting for the same update. They have left the fault open so that when the software fix comes through they will call me back in to have the car updated.

Thanks a lot!

I'll take the car to the dealer. I feel better knowing that there are no damaged parts and it's a software bug.🙂

I had the airbag error on my Scala appear last Thursday (3rd October) and taking my car into Richmond Skoda on Monday for what they call a “triage appointment”. Hopefully they will come up with the same diagnosis that it’s a software issue and not  an issue that makes the car unsafe to drive!!

Thanks a lot for you information, Timoctav!

Back from Richmond Skoda, airbag error message was indeed a software issue and a recall has been issued. All resolved.

Methinks that a known defect that relates to an important safety issue Skoda would contact owners of cars likely to be affected rather than wait for warnings to appear on the instrument display and have drivers worrying about whether their cars were safe to drive or not. Had I known I would have taken the car over on my own, not dragged She Who Must Be Obeyed along in our other car in case the car was declared unsafe to drive!

I had this problem at the beginning of June, but I have not had the recall yet for the software update. It has certainly taken them a while to get it sorted!

The software update is available, mine was done yesterday. It’s annoying as ŠKODA will not contact owners to tell them. Book yours in for a while you wait appointment and the update will be done along with a complimentary health check

Indeed, as Timoctav mentioned, the update software is already available, but in Spain, they haven't notified the customers either, which I find unacceptable. When I took the car to the dealership about three weeks ago (for the issue with the noise from the steering or brakes when the car's engine is still cold), I also took the opportunity to have the software related to the airbag issue updated, and since then, everything's been fine. Many thanks to both of you for your feedback!
