Excessive Vibrations at between 1500 - 2000rpm under load

Featured Replies

I recently bought a 2017 Skoda Yeti 2.0 Tdi. Whilst still in dealer Warranty, I noticed excessive rumbling noise when accelerating from 80 kmph to 100 kmph more specifically in 5th gear (revs between 1500 - 2000rpm).  I Brought it back to the dealer who insisted that there was nothing wrong at first.  They took the car to a garage that they use and their mechanic thought that there was a problem with the N/S/F drive shaft.  They changed that and found that the problem is still there.  They then changed the Clutch & flywheel.  I have the car back now and though it is much better there is still a small bit of a rumble at the above conditions. Though it is much improved, should I Be worried?

Tony, it sounds to me like you are in too high a gear.

Modern Diesels need to be driven like Petrol engines, so go up through the gears with more rpm..

As you are finding the "problem" at 1500-2000rpm increase the rpm at bit more.

Try it out then give us a report back.

I don't seem to have the problem if the car is higher revving, I Only noticed the problem when I was on a motorway and the traffic slowed down with, and when I went to re-engage cruise control was when I noticed the issue.  if however this is normal, then I'm very happy to continue as I am very happy with the car.

For what it's worth, our 2017 with 58k is more 'grumbly'  at low speeds than our 2015 with 100k was. But, economy is better and it drives well.

They said earlier the DMF has been replaced.

I had a similar problem with my Volvo V50, in part leading me to trade it in for my Yeti. The local garage, a long established Volvo main dealership, tried various things without success and ended up bringing down a Master Technician from Volvo HQ. He confidently diagnoses a faulty dual mass flywheel which was duly replaced under warranty (avoiding a nasty dent in my savings) but it didn't make any difference. So I never got to the bottom of the problem with the Volvo but just as a suggestion could it be a worn, faulty or loose engine mounting? I'm asking only because a family member has a Robin Reliant (you know, one of those cars where they forgot to put a wheel on each corner) and at various times he has had hard to diagnose vibration problems that have come back to an damaged engine mounting - this car seems to just eat them. Just a thought.

Coincidentally, I was looking on YouTube yesterday and a 1973 Thames TV feature popped up on the new Reliant Robin. At the end he took it on track and it was so easy to pitch it almost on its side at low speed, and he wasn't doing a Top Gear type stunt. They mentioned pot holes and crosswinds being a particular issue!
