Karoq Performance Package

Featured Replies

Have any Karoq owners (especially Sportline ones) specced performance package very recently or in the past  - I am considering doing that so I can get DCC on my forthcoming Sportline - brochure pricelist only mentions DCC affects the steering but on the octavia brochure version it says it also offers variable dampers as well. I think it is just the karoq brochure being economical with words because as far as I know all VAG DCC systems affect the damping but i dont want to spec it only to find it affects the steering side!

I added Progressive Steering and Dynamic Chassis Control to my MY21 Sportline, which seems to be the equivalent to the current performance pack.

The progressive steering affects the linkage between the steering wheel and the front wheels, so that it is reasonably direct when driving at speed, but turns the wheels faster when approaching full lock.

The DCC on mine certainly gives you extra damper settings, letting you choose between Sport, Normal or Comfort. I opted for this because of all the complaints about the 19 inch wheels affecting the comfort, and you certainly get more of a floating - almost under-damped - sensation in Comfort mode. It's great for wafting along a well-surfaced motorway, but not so good on windy back roads.

From various reviews the DCC seems to be a 'nice to have'. Comfort setting gives more of a 'floaty' ride, as CJJE said above, great on well surfaced motorways but a bit too 'wallowly' on anything else. Normal mode, is well normal and Sport tightens up the steering and stiffens the suspension a bit if you want to power through the corners on winding B-Roads.  Most seem to leave the DCC in normal 95% of the time.

Also mentioned was if you have 4x4 with the chain link(?) suspension makes having the DCC a bit point pointless.

Don't have it myself more than happy with the handling of my 4x4 Karoq.

I'm enjoying DCC for the 2nd time (Kodiaq) and love it every day.

I flip-flop between modes frequently.

With 17" winter wheels vs. 19" summer wheels I find I can ring the changes to deal with road surfaces and/or my mood.  I never touch ECO.

Not tried it in a Karoq but had it on my vRS estate and found it useful. Normal was fine, but comfort was genuinely comfortable. Sport was pretty firm but if I was bombing around I didn't mind it being extra firm for that sporty feeling. The only reason I didn't spec it this time is I was always worried about costs every time I hit a massive pot hole!

thanks - i have never had DCC on a car so dont know whether it will be an expensive mistake or not. Having said that, i have never had a car with 19" wheels either. Therefore, a little bit of a gamble but as I had no choice with the 19" wheels, it is one I am prepared to take! There does not seems to be many Karoq owners who specced DCC so difficult to gauge opinion but I value yours. I guess I should have tried a DCC car but that is easier said than done. I know there are the normal preset modes, but do you know if the DCC is adjustable in individual mode ? (Golf 8 has something like 15 sections on a slider)

No, in Individual mode you can just set the DCC to Sport, Normal or Comfort.

I have the Individual mode set up to use Economy performance and Comfort DCC, as the standard modes only allow Economy or Comfort.

The multi adjustable slider is only available on the newer cars on the MQB EVO platform I believe and they have extra valving in the dampers.

Having had 1 8 & 19"  low profile tyres on a few cars, in comparison I find the standard Sportline ride with 18" 50 profile tyres very comfortable. DCC won't help reduce tyre noise or ride comfort of 19 inch wheels with 40 profile tyres. As @liveseytowers said, you don't want to hit any potholes too hard as replacement dampers are expensive. The only advantage I can see for DCC is  in sport mode on winding roads.

Thanks. It is frustrating as we are in the hands of Skoda with wheel choice. One minute it’s 19 inch alloys, then they decide to go onto 18s for a while,  now back to 19”s. I have 18s on my SEL and always been pretty impressed with the ride. Hoping/praying that you are wrong regarding the ride comfort side and that DCC at least improves the ride a little. Time will tell

In the hands of Skoda UK / VW UK that decides what they want on the models they are importing to the UK and are being offered for sale.     It will not be Skoda CZ saying go stylee over practicality.     People could actually contact Skoda / VW UK and tell them that the standard and option wheels for the UK are not to their liking.

Yep and why the model below Sportline (SEL UK, Style elsewhere) does not get Matrix LED and is a very expensive option. Standard in other markets.

Don't forget tyre choice makes a huge difference too. Michelin Cross Climate 2 improves the ride and comfort no end.

Hi.  On the same theme as this tread, can someone provide an 'idiots' guide to the 'performance pack' on the Karoq?  I'm currently looking to buy a used diesel 4x4 and the performance pack comes with it.  It's not something (I think) I'd usually ask for on a car, but if I want this particular used vehicle it's part of the deal.

Specifically:

1.  What is it?

2. What are the advantages?

3 Perhaps more importantly, what, if any, are the disadvantages?

It wouldn't be an exaggeration to say that the feel of my car has been utterly transformed by its aluminium pedals.

Utterly.

So much so that it'd be the very first thing I'd buttonhole any future salesman about.

Thanks Kenny.  I've read the blurb, but wondered whether day-to-day it made much difference for a 'standard' driver.  We do live in a very hilly, rural spot in the, sometimes, snowy north Pennines, and we do drive on and off fields, along tracks and through shallow becks (to do horsey stuff).  But we (my partner and I) aren't what you'd call sporty enthusiastic drivers, but rather 'steady away' folk.

I've had two Yetis in the past, and they did have a tendency after 30,000 miles of ownership to go through a few coil springs.  If this should happen with the Karoq with the 'performance pack', would we be looking towards a more expensive repair, or wouldn't it make any difference?

The Skoda information above states that "the 4x4 variants will also benefit from Hill Ascent/Descent Control..." although my old 4x4 Yetis had that on the 'off-road' button.

Yes my Sportline has aluminium pedals and oh how my wife is so jealous as she only has "normal" pedals in her Yeti. My life is is so transformed now and I have won several F1 races in my Sportline. It just seems so unfair the Skoda make people struggle on some models with "ordinary" pedals...

On a serious note I do not have the Dynamic Chasis Control on my 4x4 Sportline (with aluminum pedals - did I mention them?) but from the reviews I have read online and watched on You Tube the DCC seems to have three modes "Sport" (stiffens the supsension and steeering), "Normal" (er, everything is 'normal') and "Comfort" which softenes everything and tends to make the ride a bit 'wallowly' - OK on motorways but too bouncy for everyday use. Most reviewers left it in "normal" mode as the standard suspension on a 4x4 is so good anyway. Over all opinion on DCC not really worth the money. However, you may be swayed by those aliminium pedals.....
