Estate boot dimensions ?

Hi. Pick up my new to me 2020 MkIV estate on Friday. Could anyone please give me an approx length & width of the boot floor?

 

I need a big boot space for a big Lurcher dog, Lurchers are semi-unique in that they are only really comfortable travelling if lying flat with legs fully extended. When I viewed the car I was sure the boot space would be big enuff for him but I have just taken delivery of a PVC load liner which looks tiny. Please could anyone tell me approx length & width of the load space?

Cheers. Looks like they sent me a liner for the saloon, or a totally different car !

I regularly carry 2 lurchers in mine and a bit disappointed in the mk 4. Slope of the boot and the raised floor in the hybrid IV version make the boot a lot smaller than my MK3 did.

 

Doesnt help that they need a comfortable bed to lie on too which eats up space

 

MK3 used to be able to handle 3 lurchers and a Labrador. Can fit the 3 lurchers in my Mk 4 but they are not comfortable. Labrador has to go on back seat

The mark 4 is more of a coupe than a real load lugging estate car in the way that the previous model was. It looks more stylish and is nicer inside, just nowhere near as much space inside of it. Items that fitted easily in my mark 3 Estate car just won’t fit into my current car.

Not sure I'd call the MK4 wagon a coupe.... Mk4 still has the largest load capacity in it's class.

 

Comparing Mk3 & Mk4:

Mk3 - Rear seat folded 1718 litres    Rear seat up 588 litres

Mk4 - Rear seat folded 1700 litres    Rear seat up 640 litres

 

With all seats up, Mk4 wins.

As long as you don't have an IV model. The 640ltrs is based on the no raised floor option I believe.

 

My issue is mainly the raised floor. You lose to much space which then makes the angle of back slope too sharp.

 

I could fit a 190cm+ long wardrobe in my Mk3. Tried same in my mk4 and couldnt shut boot without shattering the back window all over my drive.

 

Same with my mountain bike. Used to be able to fit whole in mk3. But no way I can in the MK4 as handlebars would go through back window too

I don't have the raised floor. Can it be adjusted to the lower position to increase your load height, or is it fixed on the IV? If so, I can see the problem.

 

I'm pretty impressed with just how much the (non-IV) Mk4 can carry, but for sheer load capacity nothing compares to the old Volvo 240 wagon I had years ago. The boxy body and vertical tailgate was certainly practical if not pretty!

So the issue is the IV rather than the mk4 per se.

 

For mountain bikes it also depends on the frame size. I could never get mine in the boot of a Superb let alone an Octavia without taking the front wheel off.

It only wins if you’re loading it with small boxes, the roofline rakes back at a much sharper angle than the mark 3 did. I had a lot of things to move a few years ago, literally moving the contents of my shop from one location to storage and then to another location. This was all done with a mark 3 Octavia estate with raised floor. Everything fitted perfectly, even carrying a few large leather Chesterfield chairs. Tried to move an identical chair in the mark 4, not even close to going in. Boxes on back seats, without folding rear seats down, again it can’t carry as many because of the angle the roof slopes back.

Of course, linear dimensions are different to cubic capacity, but everything I've needed to carry has fitted: Various size boxes/containers, appliances, large suitcases/assorted luggage, camping gear etc. I haven't needed to cart wardrobes, large chairs or mountain bikes etc. My bike is a hybrid tourer and goes on the roof, in true Škoda tradition! For many of us the Mk4's load capability is more than adequate, others may find it not so. But what else in it's class is better for overall load space?

Funnily enough the mark 3 version is actually the more practical car for carrying large items! The mark 4 has certain improvements here and there over the mark 3 but has a messy iPad style interface, which is not easy to use whilst driving. Still safety issues with the 1.5 petrol engine losing power occasionally at low speeds with manual gearbox version, which have sadly been carried on from the mark 3.

Really? Do you have any links to that?

I haven't experienced anything like it other than one or two bouts of ineptitude when I selected 3rd instead of 1st and stalled it 🙄. No different to any previous car.

And yet you bought the Mk4...

Seems many people have one grumble or another with the Mk4, notwithstanding some infotainment / electronic teething troubles in the early incarnations. Frankly I have nothing to pick fault with in my MY23 (except perhaps voice control, which I never use anyway) so I'm happy to speak up for it, this car is a perfect fit for my current needs. I find it very comfortable, quiet and a more than powerful enough performer across the board, although the recent addition of a EVC throttle controller has given it the sting that electronic throttle lag denies all modern cars. Heck, I even get on fine with the infotainment, once you get used to the menus & locations for various controls, it really isn't a problem. Overall it's a great little car IMO. Tick - V.G.

😅 mine is a company car. Took just over 2 years to come. At the time of ordering none of the dealerships anywhere I drove for work had even seen a MK4.

 

Ordered based on the spec sheet as I was happy with my mk3 I was driving at the time. After a year I was told it was delayed due to COVID/war/parts. By then my company had said you can only order a full electric.

 

Fingers crossed I stuck with the hybrid as I didn't feel confident on full electric due to charging on holiday and long journeys. Start of 2023 I almost got persuaded with a Volvo xc40 ultimate full electric. Boot looked a bit smaller than my mk3. But got build date at time saying I would have in a couple of months & the 250mile range was pushing it.

 

6 months later I eventually got the car. To find the boot for the dogs was not the best and they would of prob had more room with higher roof on the Volvo SUV. Plus all the electrical faults. From day one the info system crashed. Within the first month car had been back to dealer 3 times.

 

It's all got a bit jaded. A new car should be a happy experience. Yes my BiK is great and the car saves me loads. 0to60 in under 7.5secs is nice and it's comfortable. But every time I get in it I expect some new fault.

 

I'm just glad mine is a lease car and someone else pays for all the issues/ hire cars while mine is getting repaired. 

 

I'd probably stop grumbling as much if Skoda actually apologised 😅
