Changing Brake Pads

Featured Replies

My son has a December 2017 Octavia S.  We are looking at changing the front and rear brake pads.  Can we simply wind the existing pads back into the brake caliper or do we need special software to wind them back electronically?  Thank you.

You'll need a tool for the rears whether it's old school handbrake or electronic. There are ways of doing it without but not worth it imo

The MK3 Octavia never got an electronic handbrake so they are normal calipers 👍

Just changed my rear pads (2015 1.4TSi Estate). Straightforward job, used a standard caliper rewind tool.

does anyone know on a VRS octavia 2016 model if the front pistons can just be pushed in by hand to fit new pads and rotors? I've chnaged many brakes before but in some older cars that had brembo's that moved very easily.

also does anyone know fi the front brakes are 312 or 340mm? on the brembo website it says both are compatible which is confusing...? Skoda octavia RS wagon turbo petrol 2.0L 162 i believe i have

Best measure what is actually on the car then there will be no doubt.

The Octavia MK3 petrol VRS/RS models all got the big 340x30mm front brake discs.

Poster's profile says they're in Sydney. There can be differences in spec between markets and it'll take 30 seconds with a tape measure so I'd just measure it. That said if I had to take an educated guess it'd be on it having 340s.

I don't know, but I'd recommend buying a piston rewind kit. Having the right tool for the job makes such a difference.

Just managed to get my front bar off and change the front headlight ballast. strangely, i now have a brake pad warning light on for the Left side (the side of the headlight i repaired). Is there a way to clear this code as i know my brake pads are fine.

Fronts are really easy, piston can be pushed in with water pump pliers.  Rears require a wind back tool.
