Octavia vs Karoq

That’s sounds like a perfect trip! 🍷

Which trim did you opt for? I’m considering an SEL (very few around at the moment) or an SE TEch.

Yes, a fabulous trip, thanks.

I've got a 2020 SEL First Edition which includes blind spot detectors and the nicety of powered/memory drivers seat & door mirrors. One of those things I never knew I needed 😂

Not yet had a look at how it compares to more recent model years.

That’s a great spec. I didn’t know about the SEL first edition. The issue we have is that the last Yeti had a fantastic spec and I’m trying to work out if I can forsake the luxury of heated seats.

Isn't heated seats standard on SE Tech onwards?

I don’t think there are heated seats on the SE Tech, only the SEL

I had a Yeti L & K 1.4 a while back, currently have a 1.5 Octavia Estate and drive my parents 1.5 DSG Karoq occasionally, so know the strengths and weaknesses of all of these cars!

The Yeti was quirky, well equipped but had tiny seats somehow compared to an Octavia or a Karoq. Very thirsty too, only ever low 30’s mpg. The Karoq is so much more refined than the Yeti, better cabin, seats and far larger boot too. Both give a nice high driving position.

The Octavia Estate is much larger than the Karoq, particularly in the rear seats and the luggage capacity. Usually I’ll get low 40’s mpg doing a mixture of town and country driving. Motorway/ decent roads driving fifty plus mpg driving gently. It’s a very comfortable car if you’re doing a lot of driving. The SEL model is probably the best value for standard equipment, with the recent facelift, the new SE Tech models do now have heated seats as standard. However, since COVID car shortages time, new Skoda list prices have rocketed, mind you, so have VW and Audi prices too!

Thanks @AllanDJ, that’s a helpful round up.

I’m beginning to wish I’d got this purchase sorted before now as the supply of either model is in shorted supply than March, when I originally planned to buy.

I noticed any of the Octavia’s come with Hankook or Kumho tyres. I normally run Goodyear EGs on my Yetis. Does anyone have any other tyre recommendations for the Octavia?

My Octavia IV came with Pirelli tyres? Not sure why. Might be a battery weight thing.

Don't rate them as I already need 2 new front and only done 13k miles

Hello, I realise I’m posting this on the Octavia forum so there might be the obvious bias…

We were all set to swap our lovely Yeti for a Karoq but I’m wondering whether an Octavia estate might be a better fit. We do lots of cycling so there are some benefits to having a lower roof and longer boot but then we’ll have to get used to the lower driving position again.

Has anyone driven / owned both and were there any major differences in comfort, road noise etc. We’d be looking at a 1.0 SEL manual or DSG.

I have owned a 2013 Yeti for 6 years : 4X4 1.9TDI, it was a great car

sometimes I have driven the Karoq 2019 4X4 1.9TDI and it seems to be more luxury and upgraded but Yeti is way more strong on the road, when you accelerate on rainy conditions you can feel the difference

I have driven 2019 octavia 1.9TDI (sometimes) and it has a different feeling from both suv's but you can find similarities as well between them

now I have a 2023 Octavia and it is different from both of them, it doesnt have the feeling of 4x4 offroad suv, it is very quiet when driving and feels comfortable, maybe it is a late year of production, new generation, that's why

it is a lower driving position but you get used in a few weeks, if you dont need a suv with 4x4 the mk4 octavia is a great alternative

anyway I have  great sympathy for that YETI :)

Mine came with Michelin Primacy 4 as original fit, they're fine in wet and dry conditions and have lasted well - currently on 44k miles with more than 3mm left. Having said that, I might replace them with all-season tyres, maybe Cross Climate 2.

On my previous Superb mk2 I had Goodyear Efficient Grip, I rate them highly as they're at least as good and quieter than the current Michelins.

Thanks @SteveTheElder I’ve read good reviews about all seasons tyres, particularly the Cross Climates.

I’ve decide to opt for the Octavia and will test drive a 1.0 and 1.5 TSI tomorrow. For my budget, there are very few SELs available (I should probably have made the purchase in March and not now) so I might have to get an SE Tech instead.

I had exactly the same issue when my previous car came with Pirellis - 9K miles life only and poor to scary wet (lack of) grip.

It’ll be interesting to hear how you get on.

Mine has Pirelli and I've done 15k miles and they're only half worn. Be careful how you drive!

@SteveTheElder the 1.5 TSI was a very nice drive!

Mine are Continental, I have driven them for 7 500 km and they seems fine, until 160 km/h they are stable on road and very quiet

I have seen different type of tires always on Octavias, I dont know why they sell them like this, a good car should have the same and 1 standard for tires, not everything on market

Cost and availability at the time of production - even Audi do this, it's not a "Skoda thing".
