Please help. About oil consumption on Kodiaq RS 2.0 TSI 2024

Featured Replies

Hello guys

I'm new here. I want to buy a Skoda Kodiaq RS 2024, 2.0 TSI, 245 HP.    I've read that this engine could consume around 1 liter of oil in 3000-4000 km.    And it is normal .   Is this true?  I don't have where to ask someplace else.

Now , i am not so sure about this purchase.  In my limited experience, i know that this kind of oil consumption in a petrol car is wrong.    Diesel cars are known to  consume some oil but not  petrol cars.

Please advice...

Thank you

Yes and no. It is true that VAG would have you believe that this sort of oil consumption is "normal", but a poor oil consumption would be more like 0.5l between services.

Welcome @Mironeb76

Maybe read the owners manuals that tells you that it May consume 0.5 litres in 1,000 km (621 miles) so 1 litre in 2,000 km ( 1,242 miles)

Maybe more in the first 5,000 km.

That is what has been said for 2 decades for all VW Engines from 44 kW, petrol or diesel, 3,4,5,6,8,10 or 12 cylinder.

***First check is when you get the car and where they had the oil at.  Cold check & then at Normal Operating Temperature.

Reason being it might not be at the full capacity, often they are not.  So check, then you might know how much oil is used in 1,000 or 5,000 km.***

I have 7000km on mone.  No oil top up.

VAG  cars will consume oil if uou spend a lot of time in the top 1/3 ofthr rev range.  I hada 2001 A4 1.8T.  Sold after 240000km.  I only ever once topped up the oil, and i had been driving the car hard that time.

Regular and the occasional spirited driving stint will not consume excess oil.

This is a mk 1 not a mk 2.!!!

Basically VAG have listed 500ml of oil consumption per tank as normal for the last 25 years.  Petrol and diesel engines.

Regardless of model.

Normal consumption of oil in reality, is minimal unless you constantly keep the needle close to redline.

Hi @spud75,

Thanks for the feed back, I look d at the kicker amp and then a possible upgrade to speakers later, in regards to the active sub how did you wire this up, is there an easy way from the unit? Or off the amp? I don't mind running power in,

Actually, they word like 'may use as much as 0.5 litres oil per 1,000 km' / 621 miles.

Tanks do not come into it because that included cars with as small as a 1.0 litre engine and a 32 litre fuel tank.

High Oil consumption can often be with low speeds being done, town driving, lots of cold starts and short trips rather than those that give then welly and pedal to the metal.

My 2011 Superb 1.8 TSI consumed 1L of oil between services which my dealer considered normal as most of my miles were on the very busy M3 and gridlocked M25. It didn't bother me as the car was totally flawless otherwise for 8yrs. I now have the Kodiaq MK2 Sportline 2.0 TSI and I'll keep eye on that, early days as only had it less than 4 weeks.

Welcome, I think the operative phrase here is 'Could use xx litres in xx distance' It almost certainly will not use that much - and in any case it would not be a significant cost when compared to fuel used in that distance.

It is not reasonable to expect an engine to consume no lube oil at all - there was a time when a very high quality vehicle manufacturer considered an engine to be faulty and recalled it for rectification if it did not consume a certain measured quantity of oil.

Considering that some euro 5 1 8 TSI,s used 1 litre of oil per tank full of petrol and dealership had staff that could say the was within tolerances, 1 litre between services was a win. Not that we know if that was fixed servicing so 9,400 miles / 372 days or sooner.
