Spare Wheel kit for 2020 superb sportline plus hatch

Featured Replies

Hi

Recently bought used 20 plate superb sportline plus hatch which came with puncture kit rather than spare wheel. I would like to purchase spare wheel kit but having trouble finding best option for my car. I contacted skoda customer service asking which is the best option for my car and after a long delay, they replied saying there isnt one??!!

My car has 19" vega alloys and I understand I wont be able to get same size spare wheel to fit inside wheel well in boot. I contacted local dealer and he said there are 2 options, one being a 16" spare and the other being a 18" spare which will be thinner than the 16". I am not sure what would be the best option out of these 2 - i understand the spare is only to get you to a tyre shop and should only be used on the back wheels but was wondering what most people go with as a spare for a car with 19" wheels.

I was intitially looking at this - https://skodapartsdirect.co.uk/product/skoda-superb-hatch-2016-present-spare-wheel-and-tool-kit/

but just wanted to double check if this would be the best option.

thanks

Theres a lot of info and advice in several threads: heres one you might find helpful.    (Lots of good options outside of / less expense than a dealer) :

hi - are you on 19" wheels? Also do you have a link to the one you bought?

thanks

The below foam and jack kit can be ordered from any VAG parts department if you give them the 3V0093860D part number. The cost in the below Czech listings is 2199CZK (about £73.64) but might be a little more in the UK. This kit includes everything, except the actual spare wheel...which can be purchased separately...such as a steel rim from mytyres, and a spare tyre of your choice.

The 16" spare wheel that Skoda would normally supply as a spare for the Superb MK3 is a 205/55R15 fitted to a 6.5Jx16 ET46 5/112 57.1 steel rim...which is actually from an Octavia MK3. However, this is a bodge because a 205/55R16 has an outside diameter about 5% smaller than the standard Superb MK3 tyre sizes. This 5% smaller outside diameter also applies to the 125/70R18 skinny spare saver tyre that Skoda try to sell you as a spare for the Superb MK3...so another bodge.

It's much better to get a 205/65R16 fitted to a 6.5Jx16 ET41 5/112 57.1 as a spare. The 205/65R16 is a slightly different size to the standard 215/60R16 tyre size, but the 6.5Jx16 ET41 5/112 57.1 is the standard Superb MK3 16" rim size.

The ideal of the 205/65R16 instead of the standard 215/60R16, is that when fitted to the standard 16" rim size it allows the spare wheel to fit in the spare wheel well with the carpet flush.

Note that you only need an 18" skinny space saver if you've got a Superb MK3 with the 272HP/280HP engine...for which Skoda do a foam and jack kit with part number 3V0093860E. The cost of this in Czech is 2259CZK (about £75.62).

Alcar 8426 6.5Jx16 ET41 5/112 57.1 steel rim (standard 16" rim from Superb MK3) (£51.20 including shipping to the UK)

The reason that the 205/65R16 fitted to the standard 16" rim fits in the spare wheel well without raising the carpet, and the 215/60R16 doesn't is because the 205/65R16 when fitted to a 6.5J rim has an actual inflated width that is 6mm narrower...as shown in the chart below.

Actual inflated width of tyre when fitted to a 6.5J rim (measure from sidewall to sidewall, at the widest point)

205/65R16 215mm

215/60R16 221mm

I have 19"s on order, so soon to be on them.

And according to my receipt its Part KZGBBOM251SK, priced at £211 +Vat

I also believe a full size 16" spare would not have fit over my "280" bigger discs

The Superb MK3 with the 272HP/280HP engines have bigger brakes discs, so the 16" spare wheel won't clear the brake calipers. However, Skoda do a foam and jack kit for this model too. The below foam and jack kit includes everything, except for the actual spare wheel. It can be order ordered from any VAG parts department by quoting part number 3V0093860E.

The 18" space saver wheel that Skoda will try to sell you is a 125/70R18 fitted to a 3.5Jx18 ET25.5 5/112 57.1 steel rim (from the Octavia MK3). However, as you can see in the chart below it's better to use a 135/80R18 spare saver tyre...which will fit on the same 3.5Jx18 ET25.5 5/112 57.1 steel rim.

Thanks very much for the help and advice everyone

  • 1 year later...

Sorry to piggy back on this post, but I picked my 2023 MK3 Superb 1.5 TSI Sportline Plus Estate yesterday, and my first planned job is to sort out out a decent spare wheel and jack kit before I go on a road trip to Germany at the end of May. I have got the same 19" Vega wheels as the OP, but I note that he has got a hatchback.

As this was the clearest post that I could understand on what is required to suit my needs, I just wanted to check that this 16" option would also fit in an estate boot well?

Many thanks in advance.

Hi

See post below for details and links of what I bought. Tools, jack, spare wheel etc. The jack doesnt quite fit inside the wheel but does fit in the side pocket and the door closes fine. Breaker bar fits behind the wheel.
