EV Eco tyres on ICE from new.

Featured Replies

My late 2023 Karoq came on Bridgestone ECO EV Enliten tyres with an XL rating from the factory which I found strange.

The noise and ride isn't bad the economy is great but the grip dry or wet isn't great.

My go to replacements would be Cross Climate 2's but that would mean dropping from an A rated economy tyre to a C.

So in real terms what's the economy difference?

The grip and economy will depend on temperature.

Tyre economy is also affected by quality of tarmac surface you are driving over.  I think I have read somewhere can affect rating by over 50%

The official test rating (WLTP) is done at something like +22c.
The day and night average in UK is nearer 12c (the same as long term temperature you get in a cave).   So worrying about a test result at inapplicable temperature should not be high on your priorities.

If it was me, get premium all seasons for grip and safety, and don't worry about the economy rating as road surfaces make it to variable.

@logiclee  Many of the tyres EV,s & Hybrid or PHEV,s come on in the UK are just ridiculous as far as grip / traction on vehicles with lots of BHP or just Torque.

EV specific or just crap like Michelin Primacy 4,s.  Goodyear Eagle F1,s etc.

Truth of the matter is switch these to All Seasons on an EV and the change in the cars efficiency / range is really not much.

@logiclee  don't know which size wheels and tyres you have, and I note your preference for Michelin Crossclimate 2, but probably also worth considering Continental all season contact 2, Bridgestone Turanza all season 6, Pirelli Cinturato all season SF3.    Different ones seems to do better in different tests so overall all good in different ways.

Could also add Goodyear vector 4season gen 3 and Kleber Quadraxer 3 to your shortlist as alternatives (ultimately will depend on price and availability in size you need).

The Maxxis Premitra AP3 i am using now are excellent.

They are fitted and on smaller rims than i have my Vredstein Quatrac Pro on.  They were a bit disappointing.

I have 18" 215/50's.

Cross Climate 2's I have on our Octavia, Fabia and Berlingo. And I used to have them on my Yeti.

Of the others I've only tried the Goodyear which were OK but lacked steering feel on warmer dry days.

Being near the Peak District the CC2's being winter biased does suit me better than someone living down South.  However it looks like I'd have to go Cross Climate 2 SUV for the Karoq's size. I've never tried the SUV variant.
