Hi all, thinking of buying either a Fabia or Kamiq

Featured Replies

Hello, possible new owner here.

I currently drive a Vitara and I like the high seating position.  I’m about to change my car and heard such good things about Skoda.  The Kamiq is probably the same size as the Vitara, but as I’m getting older, I don’t ‘need’ all that space now.  Plus thinking costs too.
I just wondered if anyone had gone from say a kamiq or Karoq to a Fabia.
I will be test driving both, but thought I’d ask opinions on comfort and drive.  My Vitara seat is ok, but I realise I fidget a lot in it.

many thanks

We have a Karoq and a Fabia but I have driven Kamiq and Scala extensively.

The Fabia, Scala and Kamiq share the same MQB A0 platform and the interiors are very similar.  The Kamiq feels like a raised Scala rather than an SUV. If you want a small raised SUV from the same stable then the VW T-Cross is worth a look.

The Karoq is a different proposition. It's on the bigger MQB platform, feels a fair bit bigger than the Kamiq and you sit higher, you get more tech on the Karoq but the price is significant step up.

Seating wise the Fabia and Kamiq are pretty similar, go for a model with lumbar adjustment and if mobility is an issue avoid the Monte Carlo with sports seats.  The Karoq has larger seats but the seat base angle is a problem for some.

As it's all subjective test drive them all and see what you think.

Thank you.  Yes, I’ll test drive hopefully this week.  My brother has a Karoq so I’ll try that too.  My years of car owning, I’ve had done that killed my neck, almost pushing it forward.   A while back I tried the T-Cross. Loved its look but found the smaller engine lacked oomph.  It’s now a bit out of my budget if I went for more powerful

We have a 1.0TSi 110PS in the Fabia and that's fine.  For Kamiq and Karoq I'd go 1.5TSi 150PS

Thank you

I found 2 local dealers with the 1.5 Kamiq so I’ll test drive.  I do like the Fabia but they haven’t got the SE in auto at the moment.

if I buy new, I’m considering the orange

I drove the Kamiq, lovely to drive, but the steering wheel is too low for me.  I found myself slightly hunched as my neck lowered.  It’s me, not the car.  An issue that’s caused all sorts in how I sit etc.

typical that then I drove the Karoq, which is far better for me, seat goes low enough and steering wheel high enough that my head is upright.  Hard to explain

they only had the sport line in, but getting me SE to test on Saturday.

if I’d liked the kamiq, I’d have gone for orange but seems to much orange on a Karoq

I say typical as obv Karoq costs more.

there's lots around a year old at good prices but I’d spec one with rear camera.

so I’ll see.   But I could tell how much nicer the seats are than I have and that’s what I need plus the adjustment for seat back is a wheel and not ratchet. Much better

watch this space

it’ll prob be silver or red if I do it.  Just fed up as had loads, greys, silvers etc

Is that an SE Drive or SEL you are driving?

The SEL gets a fair hike in spec for the extra money especially if seating is important.

If you are considering new then spec can be found here https://www.skoda.co.uk/_doc/c63f4efb-a760-4a48-931f-baad88d42aa6

The SE.  And I’ll add a camera.  The materials of the seats is different but the seats are the same.  They had SE L but I said it needs to be the same as I would buy so they’re getting one for Saturday

If you struggle back wise I find heated seats are worth every penny.

I really like Phoenix Orange 😎

Know what you mean about too much of it though.

lol, some colours are ok in certain sizes.  I’ve yet to see one in the flesh.
the dark grey seems to have the best sparkle.  I just don’t want whichever colour to look flat if that makes sense ,

My blue (grey) GTI has a nice pop to it.  Car before it was a Sprint Yellow vRS estate - never had any trouble finding it!

Dark Iron Blue:

I’m drawn to the red too.

are the orange and red metallic?  I know special paint, just wondered.

We have a Race Blue Fabia.

A quite like it, don't see too many Karoq's in it.

Red and Orange are Exclusive and expensive

It is nice!

if I go the used route then I’ll see what’s about

my current car is a light blue.   I loved it at the time but the grey before had a depth of sparkle

meanwhile I’ll drive the SE on Saturday and see

Yes, I’ll consider if a used car but crazy to spend otherwise.    The moon white was nice but given it was flying any day today, it was covered

If you go used, especially nearly new, you'll probably find the SE is quite rare.  Far more SEL's available.

Did you used the reach and rake to adjust the steering wheel up down and toward you?

  • Author

Yes, and works well in the Karoq.  In the kamiq, it’s that bit lower, so even with the seat low, the steering wheel was too low for me.  I test drove a mokka and felt the same.  It’s about getting used to it, but having made mistakes before, I thought best to go up a model where I don’t need to get used to it, if that makes sense.

it’s like say, having a bruise.  If you press on it, it hurts but tiny bit yo another direction and you’re fine. My neck when fine is great but when not, takes weeks of discomfort
