P177C - Clutch Tolerance Limit Reached

Featured Replies

Morning all, looking for some advice, please.

2015 DSG VRs TSI 230 on 96k miles

I've recently (about a month ago) had the car remapped to stage 1 (racingline) along with the gearbox map that they also offer. I did this all using the PDM module that Racingline offer.

I scanned the car prior to mapping and no issues at all.

However, I scanned the car last week with VCDS and I've got both clutches reporting P177C - Clutch Tolerance Limit Reached reached now. I cleared the faults and rescanned over the weekend and they faults have come back.

Car drives fine.

I know that the gearbox map changes the tolerance limit so my question is - is this a true fault or just a "ghost message" because of the changes made by the gearbox map?

Thanks

Don't know. To me, tolerance limit is different from adjusting clutch clamping force. That does sound like the clutch packs could be end of life. I'd expect a few more miles but depends on driving conditions, launches etc...

Looking forward to an expert opinion on here... or someone with specific exp of those... but I expect most required transmission out and clutch inspected...

I imagine they did a relearn of the gearbox when doing the map?

Whether they did or didn't its probably worth doing one now to see if that sorts it!

Thanks for the responses, guys.

It just seemed too coincidental that the map was carried out and the clutches reach tolerance.

I'd assumed, perhaps wrongly, that tolerance values would have been reset as part of the map and that a relearn wouldn't be needed.

If I perform the basic setting reset, does any one know whether this would mess with the gearbox map?

I would assume there is a potential for the gearbox to forget its learned values if the gearbox ECU is flashed with a different software, or maybe they made some changes to the current software that didn't affect the adaptations.

Either way, if it was a legitimate person/company they would have known this and done the adaptations anyway if required.

I'm pretty confident doing the adaptaion should not affect the map.
