Karoq WLAN

Featured Replies

Hi, new to this site and hopefully getting a Škoda Karoq soon.
I was wondering which model/year of Škoda cars come with the built in WLAN and SIM card? My partner got a 2020 Kamiq recently and it has the WLAN/SIM combo and today I was testing out a manual (2022) and DSG (2020) Karoq SE L but completely forgot to check out the infotainment systems and look for WLAN. It’s not specified in the dealers adverts but quite often I don’t pay too much stock to those and they can be incorrect.

Is a 2020 or 2022 Karoq likely to have the WLAN? Is it just standard procedure for all new-ish models of Škoda or is it always an optional extra when first built?

My 2023 Karoq has it but the data plans are a rip off.

Ah ok. I thought it was maybe like a Kindle thing with just unlimited data but only used for SOS and Škoda shop etc

Used for connected apps (Which you have to subscribe to), SOS etc and some dealer functions.

If you want to use it for people in the car to connect to the internet or to use it for internet radio etc then you need a data plan.

haha I definitely do not want to pay for those scoundrels data. As long as the infotainment system updates and I can use CarPlay that’s all I need really

I just use my mobile phone hotspot

From what I can see on the last few years brochures WLAN came with wireless phone charger so if it has that it should have WLAN.

But also I think Android Auto wireless requires a wifi connection.

My 2022 Karoq Sportline with Android Auto works so well that I use my phone with it all the time. I just ensure data, location and Bluetooth are switched on on the phone before starting the car and Android Auto does the rest.

I never renewed my Skoda Connect subscription and have never missed it.

BTW, I also have wireless charging.

So I bought the 2020 Karoq and hoping to pick it up in the next week. It didn’t appear to have wireless CarPlay but does have WLAN to hook up to my phones hotspot which will only be useful for updating the system I would imagine. Looks like it’s wired CarPlay for me unless I get one of those dongles kicking about nowadays.

In my last Karoq (non wireless) I just attached the iphone via the cable to use the 'CarPlay' - no 'dongle' needed.......if I wasn't needing the live maps the phone just connected via Bluetooth.

I really want the CarPlay interface for podcasts and maps and overall nice interactivity tbf. I’ve done the simple Bluetooth connection for years now so hoping for this nice wee step up. I’ll go with the wired connection and see how it goes then perhaps the work phone can go Bluetooth and I can have both connected for calls at the same time

I suspect not - seem to recall a screen notice about all calls in via Carplay......
