Fab Vrs

Featured Replies

Hi Guys!

I hope you are all well?

Buckle in because this is going to be a long post BUT I need your help.

Many years ago I used to own a Mk1 Vrs and absolutely loved that car, however, being in my 20s at the time perhaps had my head turned a bit to easily and sold it after a year and a half - god, I regret it.

I was a forum member on here to hence I knew where to come 👍🏻

Now I’ve reached the ripe old age of 41 I’m in a VW Transporter T6 which has been converted to a Kombi, she’s ex RAC and been well maintained but the 2.0 150 tdi isn’t without its problems and probably isn’t the best ever……

This is where I need your help, I want to do (or have done) a 1.9 Tdi conversion from a Fabia Vrs (best engine ever!)

Hence - Transporter Vrs 😊

Ive loads of questions so maybe you can help PLEASSSEEEEEEE……

1) I’m aware that these are getting a bit leggy now so is it possible to have these engines rebuilt using genuine or upgraded parts to new condition? I’m aiming for a 160-200000 life.

2) Who’s generally the best company for these engines and rebuild knowledge. I’m not after crazy power but lots of torque and longevity. 160-180bhp is the aim.

3) Anyone know where there is a good condition, running engine and gearbox, ancilliries etc?

4) Rebuild/upgrade ideas?

5) Am I mad or is this a much stronger engine than the 2.0?

6) Is the Mk1 gear knob and gaiter available from anywhere? Can’t find any.

Ive briefly seen people rebuilding with different heads, pistons, stronger bottom end, just need all your help and ideas.

Thanks Guys

Chris

You're mad.

2.0 common rail engine has far greater power potential because it's a sixteen valve, it's only unreliable when it's not properly serviced and I would guess the RAC serviced it religiously so all you need to do is keep it up.

Simply getting the existing 2.0 engine remapped will easily give you the power and torque you seek.

All at a tiny fraction of the price and effort.

Hi Sepulchrave,

Thanks for responding.

You’d think so wouldn’t you! It’s got stacks of history but it’s definitely not without issues….its been in my local specialist lots! I've spent a fortune on it.

I’ll definitely weigh up the options though and maybe see what upgraded parts would make it great.

👍🏻
