Lightly Modified Fabia IV

Featured Replies

Amazing the difference a 30mm suspension drop and wheel spacers make to the PJ3. How the Monte Carlo should look from factory.FB_IMG_1722701166613.jpg.90ebdee3f9b730b42a8e6a0e26e842e8.jpg

Simply clever

Modifications like this certainly increase the efficiency of speed humps.

What make of springs did you opt for? Did this to my Mokka and what a difference it made to general handling, also did a few Mk2 Gti models.

Eibach springs, Tintowellfan. Stock arch gap is an excessive 60mm so this halves the gap to 30mm. Slightly stiffer spring rate than stock so less roll. Very pleased with them.

I have used Eibach on previous cars, but could not find them listed for latest incarnation of the Fabia. Any links?

Thanks for that information.

This has been on my list for a long time! I'm so happy to see what it could look like.

The arch gap as standard is beyond laughable

Glad you like it, bluntsteakknife. Here's a square-on view of the finished article. Lowering springs can be a bit of a Midweek lLottery in terms of the result but these Eibach springs do exactly what they say on the tin - 30mm drop on the rear and 30-40mm drop on the front. Not sure what Skoda are thinking about with the stock, farmyard suspension.

Eughhh, that pic is even better. I think I need a slight different weight rate set to yours as I have the 1.5 but you've sold me on these 100%

Have you thought about spacers at all? I know my 17's are tucked a little too much for my taste

Yes, stock wheels are well recessed, bluntsteakknife. I have the 18" Libra alloys and wheel offset may differ from the 17" rims but I found that 8mm front and 15mm rear H&R anodised black spacers were the perfect combination (see pic). That's a track increase of 16mm front and 30mm rear which, when combined with the lowering springs, gives the Monte a really planted stance.

Looks incredible mate!

Anymore plans in the pipeline?

Note you have mud flaps front and rear. How do you find they fit? Are they snug against body? On previous Vauxhall cars I never found an acceptable fit, with significant gaps where dirt and grit could get in and damage paintowrk.

No, happy with that, bluntsteakknife. Older and wiser than when I had my Quartz Grey Fabia 3 SE L. Spent a fortune converting it into a Monte Plus - bodykit, rear spoiler, front splitter, 60mm drop coilovers, spacers, custom exhaust cut through the diffuser, induction kit, mapped to 150PS etc. On reflection, too much.

Well spotted, Tintowellfan! Skoda don't do front mudflaps for the Monte which has the additional moulding fixed to the sill. So I ordered standard Fabia flaps and trimmed them round the moulding using a hacksaw and dremel. Not the neatest fit and there is a small gap evident but, if these modern supercars have large open vents behind the front wheels, why am I worried? Rear flaps are standard Fabia and fit perfectly.

Looks so much better with the springs youve fitted, that arch gap is way better controlled like that!

Fitting new springs to mine this weekend to do the same, drop that huge gap in the rear! 😛

50 years ago (when I was unmarried and mechanically reckless with my cars)  I used to DIY significant alterations, though always relating to performance not looks. I well recall fitting stronger springs (that buckled the spring compressors) and adjustable Spax damper-units to a Reliant Scimitar GTE that had a rare 'blow-through' turbo conversion. The result was a car that had as much suspension movement as a skateboard, was too fast for the brakes, was positively lethal on wet roads and, as there was no power-assisted steering, every journey was like a visit to the gym. I'm sure I thought it was wonderful at the time...

I know its a bit of an old post but i thought i would ask anyway. I just got my better half a Fabia monte carlo and she loves it to pieces and wants to look after it. I purchased some OEM mud flaps and found out the fronts wont fit a Monte Carlo spec.

Looking at the pictures you've posted i noticed you have some fitted to the front. Did you mod them or are they custom ?

Thanks in advance if you happen to spot my question.

This was covered in this earlier posting that I have quoted above.
