Earth conductor for the engine water channel

Featured Replies

Hi,

My car was in the service after problems with starting. After long term checking they told me the problem is with a ground cable that unfortunately isn't produced anymore.

The part is 8L0971371 - earth conductor Connection bundle el.inst. for the engine water channel

I see that this part can be purchased in UK and Poland. Seems just like a ground cable with a ring connector and some female pin.

Does somebody knows where this cable goes? I'm reading about water box and water channels but Im not clear since I couldn't find any picture.

There is some workaround or I only have the option to replace the cable?

Thanks and sorry for my ignorance

Where is the water box? Or at least what/where is? Searching on Google I don't get any result

There is your problem; the "water box" is not a recognised vehicle term in any of UK, US or Australian English. It could possibly refer to the radiator header tank, but that wouldn't be earthed.

Water box is a VW/Skoda term for the section that the windscreen area drains into, often referred to as the scuttle.

Perhaps that wire runs within that area.

THIS LINK to LLL Parts shows the connector lead in context (item #1).  A more detailed picture is HERE and a list of vehicles it fits is HERE.

LLL Parts offer it new for £8.30.  If they aren't right for you try the same part number on skoda-parts.com.

Hi, I was looking this picture for long time tonight and trying to understand it.

The row of the part that I need doesn't have any number in the diagram. Is under "individual parts" row. How can I interpretate this and know to which connector it belongs or where to find it?

Sorry if I'm missing some detail

Why not ask the service people that told you that it needs replacing?

This will be on Friday. And I guess I will talk with the administratives, get the key and they don't know anything else.

Which I have never heard being used before this thread. Scuttle I understand, but not why it would be earthed. The heater box would be earthed though.

I think is some connector that is grounding somewhere close to the water box, since says "engine water box". In the picture of the piece looks like one side is a ring connector and the other looks like a female pin of a connector.

Btw. If I find it can I ground it somewhere else?

Good or bad news

The service said that the cable is located under the battery, and connects the gearbox and the chassis.

This sounds completely the opposite of that the part number description says. Does anybody have experience with the cable that grounds the gearbox to the chassis?

And a more stupid question: when you mean the earth connector of the tranny... That means this earth connection in the gearbox?

Ordering the cable to UK failed. They don't have it anymore. If it's an earth cable could I do it by myself?

Thanks a lot and sorry for the stupid questions but I want to be clear of what I'm doing :)

An earth cable is something that a DIYer or a local garage can make. The critical points to know are the points it connects between and the routing.
