Ticking noise when heater is on

Featured Replies

Hi all, I have started noticing my MY21.5 Kamiq making some tickning noises somewhere on the right when the heater is on. I could not figure out the source exactly but it only starts after driving around 10-15minutes and kept going after that - thinking it is heater related as that is when it feels like it gets to temperature. I've put a video link of it and it starts around 0:20 of the video. I have my yearly (3 years now) service coming up next week and I have alerted my dealership of it but wanted to check if anyone knows anything or have experience the similar issue.

Maybe got a leaf or something in there could try taking the cabin filter out and blowing all the vents and cabin filter housing with compressed air.

Sounds more like a servo motor hunting, this happens a lot in VW Group since at least 2000, these servo motors operate the "heater" air direction and air blend for temperature control and the potentiometer mounted on each one, which is part of the feedback system to control the flap's position, gets "dirty" and so the control of the motor is lost and so it moves beyond that point and so to being in the wrong position which is detected and then it reverses and moves back beyond where it should be - and oscillates hence the ticking.  Sometimes if you are lucky, it is just due to the system trying to get in control of the demanded air temperature and it will settle down.

Thanks for your replies!! I had a look into the filter/fans and it doesn’t look like there is any debris in there. Blew it with my data vac and vacuumed the filter as well and issue still persist. Might be the servo motor thing then. I’ll have the dealership have a look on my service since its still in warranty and hopefully they sort it out.

A bomb in the glovebox?

Jesus I was Joking.  I joined this site nearly 20 years ago and went away for a while, but since being back I’ve noticed a distinct lack of lightheartedness and humour compared to the old days.

Give me the old crowd, this lot don’t know how to have a laugh🙄😂😂😂

Try checking if it is the lower edge of the instrument cluster/ top of steering column. Mine makes a high pitch clicking at random and pressing in this area stops the sound. Other users have noted this and suggest pressing a bit of foam rubber into the gap - seems to be differences in the plastic fittings. No guarantees but worth a try
