What do I need to know as the new owner of a 2022 Kodiaq RS?

Featured Replies

I'm about to take custody of a 2022 2.0l 180kw Kodiaq RS, done 30,000km. Very excited!

As I'm new to the Skoda family I'd love to learn any tricks and tips that would be useful to know for this vehicle. What do you suggest?

Also, are there any maintenance tips I should be aware of for the next 10-20k?

Where to start...? 🙂

The gearbox will drive you nuts within the first week, it has an inane ability to never be in the correct gear. Do not go thinking you've got a sports car - it really isn't all that quick. And despite having 4wd, it most certainly isn't capable of anything more 'off-road' than a gravel track or grass verge.

However... it's utterly brilliant. It is a jack of all trades, but a master of none. There are bigger SUVs out there, but it's big enough for a family of 4 + dog going on holiday without having to resort to trailers or roof boxes. There are faster SUVs out there, but it's enough fun to put a smile on your face (unless you also happen to own a sports car, in which case it probably won't). And the 4wd system is great when you hammer it round a bend maybe a little quicker than you realised, keeping it's big heft in line and delivering you out the other side safely and at speed.

As long as your expectations are set correctly, you'll love it.

Edit: Oh, and as for maintenance, you're going to need to get the DSG oil changed and the Haldex (4wd) serviced, which includes an oil change and replacing the filter, within the next 20k.

I've come from a 2012 Kia Sorento 2.2 diesel, so I'm used to the class of vehicle, just wanted something newer, faster, more comfortable and better looking 🙂

Have read you can get a DSG tune to improve it's behaviour, which is normally done with the stage 1 tune.  Will just live with the vehicle for awhile before thinking about anything like that.

I did the dsg rest procedure on my 2023 and it improved the gear box.  Flicking across to manyal for down changes or just going manual improves things.

I dont know why offroad mode is separate button for driving modes....

I have taken mine to the snow a couple times.  chains only fit in the rear wheels but all good when i used them.

I like that kessy works on the rear doors, and also for locking. I have a habit of getting out and walking around the back and locking the car from the rear doirsas i walk past.

I am thinking 20mm eibach wheel spacers for a wider stance?

You will use way more fuel than the diesel you had.  (i also have a diesel octy RS manual).

A trick with the cruise, if you pull the cruise control lever towards when on cruise, it increases 1 km at a time.

Get a boot liner if it doesnt have one.

Its a brilliant car.  As said previously, jack of all trades, can put a smile on your face, but master of none.

Good tips and good to note about the DSG reset procedure.

It's already got a boot liner which I'm pleased about.

On the chains, why do they not fit on the front wheels? Surely not a clearance issue?

Absolutely a clearance issue.  There is about 7mm between the inner sidewall and the suspension strut on the front.

I can only just get my fingers between.

Maybe thats why i NEED those eibach spacers....

Tyre width is 245, my wifes q3 runs 255 and they would do well on the vRS.  When it comes time for new rubber, i will put the spacers on.

I use konig xg-12 247's? Chains.  They fit the Q3 255's and the kodiaq.

I have used the chains on the rear on the lodiaq for decent in snow.

Oh tip for those new to VAG.  Putting the windscreen wipers on intermittent, activates the rain sensing wipers.  The intermittent speed adjusts the sensitivity.

The matrixheadlights are good but personally i find there are dark bands across the field of vision, especially where the dipped beam should meet the high beam.  Just the  place where a roo will be on the side of the road in Australia... ..

Have you looked at snow socks? There wont be a clearance issue with these.

Here I disagree. It is capable for more than you think. Taken 30 degree wet slopes, mud, heavy snow etc etc.

The reason here seems to be the offroad mode.

It sets all assistants not to react so harsh and electronically imitates locking the differentials. Makes quite a difference compared to the standard mode.

It aslo includes the hill assistant, which is just brilliant.

I just had the Sales Manager spend an hour with me in the showroom running through all the features of the car. Mind is blown.

He did mention that if I'm reversing down a steep slope the car might suddenly stop if it thinks it's going to hit something. So maybe using the Offroad mode might be useful in this case to switch off some of those collision avoidance features.
