Superb 'think' it is different speed limits

Featured Replies

Hello. I recently bought a 2020 Superb 1.4 TSI hybrid.

Several places I've been driving, the car some how think there is a change in speed limits when it's not.

Does this happen because its maps are outdated? I have to deactivate the speed sign recognition to prevent the car to hit the breaks in a 90km/h zone because it think it's suddenly entering a 50 zone.

How to solve the problem?

It'll be no help, but my 2020 does that too. There are specific places it always gets wrong.

Two of those places happen to be on the route to the dealer.

At one point the dealer was working on my Superb and gave me a courtesy VW to get home.

It also "knew" the speeds, and it also got it wrong in exactly the same places by exactly the same amount.

Therefore, I thought, it's not the car, it must be the maps.

I thought the mapping was provided by Here maps. I created an account with Here allowing me to see and edit their speed limits. The speed limits at these points are correct.

Therefore, I thought, it's not the maps...

Or maybe it's the dealer... Even your car and the courtesy VW one don't want to get there to quick and slow down! 😮

Sorry, an easy one... 😁

It happens sometimes on mine too. But fortunately for me, it's only a question of wrong speed diplayed by the TSR. Brakes are not coupled to TSR on mine.

Updating the maps is the first thing I would try....

The online version might be right now but you don't know what version was integrated by VW in 2020...

My 2014 Octavia isn't connected but you can download map updates from VW for free.

After one update they had added the speed limits for some temporary roadworks into the map system.

It was 2 or 3 updates before the limits were corrected even though the work only lasted 2 or 3 month max.

And it's logical if you turn off the TSR that the displayed limits should come from the navigation system.

For me my maps are updated automatically over the air and are never more than three months old. The speed issue in the  same places has been happening for years.

Where or how do I update the maps?

A few days after purchase, I downloaded the Skoda app, and created a new 'super' user, me. I noticed that the app mentioning something about google maps (maybe I'm wrong). So I hoped that the map was updated, but it's not. I know because it doesn't show a new road that was finished a couple of years ago.

Any suggestion on how to update the map?

PS! The map in the app shows the road missing in the car's map.

Additional information

The "online maps" is a subscription service if I understand correctly.

You get 3 years free from a new car & then must pay for to continue the "over the air" updates.

You can always perform the update yourself manually by downloading the files from the Skoda Update portal and using a memory stick to install it in the car.

Enter your VIN number here to get the list of available downloads:

had the situation a few days ago that the car thought one thing, google another, and they were both wrong.

bad signage means wrong limits; covered by leaves, for example. Worked better in Germany than it does here (with signs on yellow). The car also shows some limits that are time-limited (from 22-6 for noise or from November to March) but google does not. Here may have correct numbers, I haven't checked recently.

Super annoying when predictive cruise is turned on and it reads the limits from the adjacent exit....

Definitely try to update maps as a first step. You can also make suggestions on the portal if I remember correctly - I just did mine. But because I only have a 16GB card, I couldn't do the complete Europe set. I will be ordering an ebay 32GB card soon, you can't just use a standard SD card and have it work.

Yup. Same problem here. I have downloaded the most recent map (MIB3) and ordered a 64Gb fladhdrive with USB-C (As recommended with my car's VIB number - because it's no SD card reader in my car).

A 32Gb drive might be too small. It says 32Gb, but available space after formatting with exFAT or FAT32 is somewhere between 28-29Gb and the total size of my update is 28.9Gb

You can also use a usb hard drive to download the maps or use a USB-C to USB-A adapter with any existing usb sticks you have
