Can I set the charge time every day

Featured Replies

Hi,

I am looking at getting an EV tariff for home.

The cheap times are midnight until 5am, so should get a good charge in, saving over £2 per charge.

Only thing is, I do not have a dedicated charger (the savings do not warrant it), so I was wondering if there was a way to set the car charging at mighnight each night.

Only way I have found is to create a plan, but that seems to require a departure time.

Put any departure time in the middle of the day and off-peak time frame 00:00 - 05:00. That'll make it work, car going to start charging at midnight.

I have just ordered a cheaper tariff.

octopus was cheaper for overnight but 1p per kWh more daytime and two of us work from home.

still not sure about setting the departure time as will that not use charge for no reason

You could use a plug-in timeswitch. One designed for heaters should work fine if you are using the granny charger (the one with a standard plug on the end). If you need something weatherproof, have a look at the range of charging cables with timers available from Tough Leads, but they are quite expensive. We have the Octopus Go tariff and the car charger is plugged into a timer, although the one I have also allows for remote control so I can programme it to take advantage of any free electricity sessions that Octopus have.

The car allows you to set charge start and stop times for each day of the week.  Takes about 4 and a half hours for a full charge, you can do it all at cheap rate.  It's the only way to run a PHEV.
