Car failed MOT brakes - question

Er, they're not supposed to dismantle the car to carry out an MoT!

The car failed on a bulge in the tyre so this was their attempt to fit new tyres, not great practice. He was pushing downward on the bar which means it is very difficult to keep the locking nut at right angles to the bolt. I did try to explain after the event that it is good practice to pull upward on the breaker as it is easier to use the other hand to push down at the pivot point to keep the correct angle but I might as well as have spoken to my greyhound with the look he gave me. He apparently thought that he could only apply maximum force by pushing down so I suggested that he might want to do a little work in the gym to build up his strength. Poor wee boy

Sorry for not updating ! Yes front and rear disks and pads plus an MOT for the same price the dealer wanted to charge just for the front !

Some brake pads have metal wear indicators so that when the pads become excessively worn the metal indicator touches the disc making a squealing sound. Other pads may have a cut, which if worn away indicates that the pad must be replaced.

An illuminated brake wear indicator is not a reason for failure!

Looks like the MOT tester doesn't know what he's doing.
