Estate rear spring replacement heavy duty.

Featured Replies

Hi

I have a 2023 Octavia estate VRS diesel, I use it for work and carry a lot of weight in the boot. The rear wheel clearance is really low whereas the fronts have loads of clearance! It's not 4x4 so I struggle to get it off the line and it will be wearing the rear tyres on the inside.

Has anyone fitted heavy duty rear springs or is there a relatively simple way of raising the rear?

Spring assisters as sold for those who tow?

Thanks for that Dave, I just looked online for those and found helper springs which go inside the original spring, not as easy as assister to install but I may try both as they seem to give help when loaded.

I used them on my MK1 Octavia, they were OK and a reasonable price back then compared to new springs, TBH its pointless fitting them if your rear springs have already sagged, new ones from Lesjofors or Kilen (same factory) are very cheap these days and you can choose the upgraded ones for increased unladen height and carrying capacity, I have fitted them to the last 2 vehicles and they have been great.

You should look at the colour coding of your existing springs to decide what uprating will suit you best.

Carlston is the font of all knowledge on this subject!

As you can see in the chart below, there are nine different rear springs listed in the Skoda parts catalogue for the Octavia MK4 with 0N1, 1JA build codes.

According to the gknautomotive.com online spring catalogue, the Octavia MK4 estate 2.0TDI front wheel drive with standard ride height has rear springs with OEM part number 5Q0511121AG, ie. it's the middle one in the list below.

By comparison, gknautomotive.com lists the hatchback version of this as having rear springs with OEM part number 5Q0511121AF, ie. one lower in the hierarchy compared to the estate version. This is normal, because the estate version is expected to carry slightly more weight in the luggage area than the hatchback version.

As you go up in the hierarchy of these springs from 5Q0511121AC to 5Q0511121FC they tend to become longer and/or stiffer.

It would be a simple job to change these rear springs to one or two up in the hierarchy, ie. 5Q0511121AH or 5Q0511121AJ.

Rear coil springs for Octavia MK4 (0N1 = standard rear axle, ie. not multi-link rear suspension) (1JA = standard ride height)

Hi Carlston

I finally managed to get my rear wheel off (got round to upgrading to a spare wheel kit!) and found my existing spring is black and the sticker says it is 5Q0511115. These numbers all seem to end in 21. I looked on GKNs website but it only comes up with 1 standard replacement but no upgrade options. Do you have any ideas on this?

The FL is part of that number, stick it on the end and you'll have the real part number.

I would suggest that your relevant PR codes must be 1JC and 0YF. Genuine spring of that PN is currently £111.50 + VAT at Skoda dealers.

As you have a VRS, you will probably have independent rear suspension and lowered ride height which have the following range of rear springs listed in the Octavia MK4 parts catalogue.

As Pete mentioned, you've got 5Q0511115FL rear springs, which is the sixth rear spring in the list of ten rear springs below.

The gknautomotive.com spring catalogue also lists the Octavia MK4 2.0TDI VRS estate as having 5Q0511115FL rear springs.

As you carry lots of weight, I suggest going up two in the hierarchy which should increase the stiffness of the rear springs by about 10%. Perhaps Bilstein 36-302444 or Kilen 50254...which I've linked to below.

Rear springs for Octavia MK4, 0N4=independent rear suspension, 1JC=lowered ride height

1 5Q0511115FF Coil spring     1JC+0YA
1 5Q0511115FG Coil spring     1JC+0YB
1 5Q0511115FH Coil spring     1JC+0YC
1 5Q0511115FJ Coil spring     1JC+0YD
1 5Q0511115FK Coil spring     1JC+0YE
1 5Q0511115FL Coil spring     1JC+0YF
1 5Q0511115FM Coil spring     1JC+0YG
1 5Q0511115FN Coil spring     1JC+0YH
