Remote Central Locking

Featured Replies

Hello all,

Since I bought my Felicia (2000, 1.6) I have managed to sort out thermostat and engine mount issues (thanks to everyone for the advice).

When I bought it, I was told that the remote central locking didn't work but the central locking did work with the key which was true. One of the locks is a bit sticky and doesn't always go so I am going to take the door card off this week and give it a clean and some lube.

I was wondering if there is a simple troubleshoot for attempting to figure out why the central locking doesn't work. I have one of these keys and I replaced the battery to see if that was an easy fix but no joy. The bulb doesn't light up.

Can anyone give me some steps to try whilst I am working on the car this weekend?

Thank you,

Nick

Felicia didn't have remote central lock integrated in the key, it was an extra fob:

Quite often, the rubber band fell apart and fob got lost... But it's possible that you don't have remote lock system at all - it was available only with alarm system, you can check front A-pillars if there are ultrasound sensors and alarm unit in the engine bay, near the firewall (unit on the picture is pre-facelift, later models were different, but similar placement)

Front pins should move freely, rears were always a bit more sticky. Most issues with the lock are caused by motors, but hard movement may be caused by lock itself. Hard to say until you remove the panel and check yourself.

You can remove the motor and keep it connected to check if it moves freely by itself.

Ah that is so useful. I was very confused as to how that key could operate for remote central locking. On the one hand, it has a button you can press and the previous owner mentioned remote central locking, but when I opened it up, I couldn't see a circuit board!

What is the purpose of the bulb?

I will check for the alarm and sensors tonight but I suspect that it just never had remote central locking.

Thank you for the advice on cleaning up the locks. It is the front passenger side. Can the motor movement be improved with a clean and lube or is it usually replacement required?

Looking at the key you pictured, I'd say the press-button is to simply shine a light for locating the keyhole in the dark.

I am going to have to find a new bulb and get it working now!
It may not have remote central locking but it does have a little bulb to help you find the keyhole 😆

The factory keys from mine don't have button for lock-unlock, only a button which works as a switch for the light (very thin).

Never had a key fob from the seller, usually here in GR those days the seller asked you for a free radio-cassette or free alarm system (both were low quality).

Might only be the contact points, try giving them a clean up first.

You can test the bulb by contacting it straight to the little battery using a bit of spare wire aswell.

I have seen a unit fixed in one of these threads.

The arrow shows the position of the key to cancel the alarm device (e.g. due to a repair)

The reason that i post these photos is to find an idea to relocate mine, due to noise insulation that area is covered and it would be difficult to find it.

When you have not front strut brace the procedure (remove batter-install new) it's easy,in mine it's a difficult task and you have to remove it in inclination pushing a bit the plastic cover of washers-windshield wipers.
