Start stop turns off engine before complete stop

Featured Replies

My 2017 Superb has the start stop system. I have had in 2 other cars but didnt have the following issue. It turns off the car before it comes to a complete stop. Has anyone had a similar issue?! It's 1.8 petrol.

I take it it is a DSG.

They can do that so many will have experienced it.

Yes. It is a DSG.

Is there to reset the system? So that engages only when the car comes to q complete stop?

I think It's related to brake pedal position?  I found in my octavia that releasing the pedal as you get near stopping helped avoid the engine cutting out too soon.  Also make for a more comfortable stop.

I have an MY17 Superb and my start-stop also kicks in before the car comes to complete stop.

Annoying especially at roundabouts or intersections.

Unfortunately it's a common complaint.

Which is why many of us either code start-stop out, or fit a start-stop memory device.

I have the later - works a treat.  Had it for a very long time now.

What's a start-stop memory device?!

If you have that which is a new switch and turn off stop start it remembers with each engine start.

Without it when you turn it off then turn off the engine and start up you have to disable stop start again.

Personally I have a routine of saying “turn that fu… off” and on my way

I've had a Volvo XC90 & Mercedes GLE and both have the same behaviour where when coming to a stop you mentioned.

the engine will sometimes cutout around 10kph before the vehicle comes to a stop if you are braking very lightly.

My 2023 MK3 Superb also does this.

Quite annoying as often in cuts out then restarts if you release slightly the brake and then cuts out again when you reach 0kph.

I guess this is an emissions thing to try to win a few grammes more of CO2 by stopping early.

I think it stops the engine below 3mph if you have a very light touch on the brake.

As explained by @Danoid - it remembers the last state u left the start-stop state in when u turned off the car.

So each time u start the car, u don't have to remember to turn it off.

U do need to remove the centre console switch gear so u can install it.

I faced this problem on my wife's former Audi Q3 too (though with a manual gearbox). Very annoying and even dangerous when entering in a roundabout.

But I never faced that with my Mk3...

What you’re experiencing is normal. Get an override switch as per @Danoid suggestion and this feature is no longer an issue. They’re dirt cheap, a bit of a faff to fit, but well worth it.
