Memory module for Start-Stop button

Recommended Posts

I have saved few links

before ordered device which looked most complete,

in theory Plug&Play without soldering and cut any wires

€34    https://www.aliexpress.com/item/4001012474153.html

connects between buttons module and coming wire

yes it look accurately built, but after first install worked just once of ~10 attempts
had to make research what pins are in use, on Russian forum found that are:
1 - +12v
3 - mass
6 - SSA
measured voltage on first pin, all ok
heated most contacts on the chip with a soldering iron,
nothing :(

after discussion with Ali's seller and several approval videos,
seller sent me new package with microchip only,
i confirmed will able solder it by self.
received within 15 days, same as first package.

packed in huge size box:

after soldering new chip nothing changed.

JAAAAgD3B-A-1920.jpg

again videos to seller and refund procedure.

what interesting, there were blinking response on attempts change Memory Module working modes,

which are three (other candidates don't have that):

cKAAAgN_2-A-960.jpg

funny, but how to change working modes
can be read only in description of identical item just for Toyota (same seller)
Instruction_Skoda_vs_Toyota.thumb.png.dc3e938f4205277d375adf162884a42e.png

after another 30 days got instruction from seller to swap pins 1. and 7. on both ends:

(have no idea what lives on 7th pin)

HURRAH, that works!

first, memory mode, for 100%
but second, default OFF, just for ~70%.
seller answered it can fail after short stay, but looks more as random.

another small glitch is when i turning On Start-Stop manually,
after one second it turned again Off, not often, few times a week.

overall i satisfied by this upgrade

its easier and cheaper to code stop/start out though,

remember, if you code it out, you can still stop the engine with the key if  your stopped for any length of time,

so for me, no real benefit of this device

@MartiniB - I too bought one of these devices many weeks ago, from wat is likely the same seller on AliExpress.

Initially I ordered the wrong version - one suited for the Chinese Superb.

Contacted seller n got the right version sent.

Installed it - nothing happens, i.e. it doesn't remember the start-stop states after ignition off, despite "changing" between modes.

Spoke to the seller, n they suggested I swap pins 1 & 7 on their device.

Did that, made it worse as start-stop button and Traction Control button stopped working.

Removed the device. Seller asked me to now swap pins 1 & 6.

I said no thanks, give me my refund. I'm not keen on testing.

Seller has sent me another one, with the "correct wiring".  It's in transit currently.

This one better work plug'n'play.

can't see huge risk on pins swapping, in case all wires goes transit and three have parallel connection to memory module,
just swap must be made on both ends and right pins,
on first attempt i, IDENTICAL AS YOU, wrongly swapped 2<->6, because Ali connector doesn't contain numeration

note, mine is European, steering wheel on the left side

Ali seller sent me version "Superb taiwan"

Hello, I already received the cable.  I wanted to ask you if this happens with yours.  The memory does work but when activating the start-stop I get several errors, one is that the vehicle's energy consumption is too high.  Do you think that the cable does not work correctly in my car or is it normal and it happens to you too?

@Jesus98

Sorry, but symptoms sounded so similar.
And that less kms nowadays doesn't mean car without problems,
during first three years i had 34 service visits,
just last two more or less without problems

I didn't get any errors either even when I correctly swapped pins 1 & 7.  Instead certain buttons stopped working.

Will try swapping the correct pins today n see how it goes.

been 2 days now with the start-stop memory module in place and its been great so far! no errors.

it remembers the last state of the start-stop each time i start up.

i can use start-stop when i'm in heavy traffic.

win-win.....perfect!!

Just a quick question of you but is it possible now too cold out out stop and start with the OBD reader on these 2019 to 2020 Skoda VW models interested on your thought

you should be able to code 2019/ 2020 cars,    i've heard the latest 2021  cars cant be coded, but dont know if that's true

That is the problem nobody actually knows but thank you for the input a bit more investigation I suppose

It's not a myth - newer car's have the dreaded SFD protection.

VWAG have implemented something called Vehicle Diagnostic Protection SFD on the newest vehicles - this makes it impossible to change some values without getting a code from the VWAG corporate servers.

The previous procedure (activation of security access by way of a 5-digit login code) no longer conforms to VWAG security requirements.

There are various instructions to disable stop/start which change depending on vehicle age.

At least for MQB based vehicles the earliest version I'm aware of is to adjust the temperature range using these adaption channels:

ENG137062-ENG100689-EM_start_stop_requirement_ambient_temperature-Maximum_temperature
ENG137062-ENG137099-EM_start_stop_requirement_ambient_temperature-Minimum_temperature

The channels eventually disappeared from CAN-gateways, instead, the voltage range would be changed using this adaption channel:

IDE08348-Start/stop start voltage limit

However, on newer cars, although this adaption exists, it no longer prevents stop/start. It's not entirely clear to me when this changed but at a guess, it's probably MY20 but might be MY19, I think MY18 should be OK.

Given that @Diljit has a MY20 based on their other posts, I don't think changing the adaption channel is going to help :)

I'm ignoring SFD as that's not relevant to a MK3 Octavia...

edit:

Looks like there are no hard and fast rules for MY19. Some claim it works, plenty claim it doesn't, some claim it does for one ignition cycle only :D

did you try disconnecting the battery monitoring cable  ?  [ small cable connected to the battery negative terminal ]

costs nothing to do this, and if it works , happy days

I've got one of these for my new Superb Sportline.

I would like to install it but can't seem to figure out how to get the buttons out to install this.

Use a plastic wedge to carefully pry out the key unit.

Pull out carefully upwards. The cable is relatively short and everything is a bit fiddly.

For my start-stop module, I cut a plastic bar inside so that there is more space under the switch unit.
