Unable to drop Glove Box

Featured Replies

Hi all.

I am attempting to retrofit a reversing camera to my 2021 Karoq 2.0 diesel DSG. In order to access the rear of the radio head unit, I will need to drop the full glove box. Using T20 hex driver, I removed the 7 screws, however the box will not drop. I can drop it slightly on left but it seems to be catching near the glove box  push button. Has anyone any idea if I am missing something? The radio unit unfortunately will not fully pull out when released with the no5 keys.

Not fully sure what you mean by ‘catching near the push button’?

However, the release of the glovebox is simply depressing the 2 spring loaded ‘stops’ and allowing it to drop - the soft open mechanism / light switch just slides out.

I normally start by releasing the nearside stop, applying downward pressure by twisting the box slightly to keep it released and then the other - three hands would be useful as with many dismantling jobs.

Hi. Thanks for reply. I am able to drop the box itself using the tabs. I've done that to access the fuses and filter. But it's the whole frame needs to be dropped, hence the removal of the seven screws. Dropping the compartment alone will not give me access to the radio head unit. There is a video of the whole box and frame dropping with these screws removed, but mine does not. My gut feeling is that there is a screw behind the push release button  of the glove box, which stays in place when the box is opened normally.

Ah, I see now - apologies - sorry can't help with that - let us know if you find the bugger.......

I will for sure. I believe there may be a final screw behind the push lever. I will go at it again tomorrow and report back with a picture.

So. It turns out there is an 8th screw just below the glove box release push button. Should wear my glasses more often. Just over my finger in the picture.
