Battery Cover Options

Featured Replies

Hi

With the weather changing and the temperature starting to drop, I'm starting to look at whether my battery is adequately insulated from the elements.

My current battery cover is the fabric wrap, with no top cover. Like this (not my dirty engine thankfully):

Is it worth replacing this with one with a top cover, like this:

I did buy this hard cover off AliExpress, but I cannot get it to fit properly. Just doesn't want to clip onto the battery and I'm uncomfortable just leaving it balanced on the top of the battery. Also thinking the fabric top cover might have better insulation benefits.

All advice and views welcome. Thanks

Chris

I got the same uneasiness about the lack of cover, but mostly due to the heat - I've read somewhere that heat damages batteries, and the cold kills them ...

Thanks for the heads' up on the flimsy battery plastic cover, I know someone here mounted it and was happy about it but ...

The original option is to the battery felt wrap around cover mounted in the pre-FL cars, as seen here in #12

I did not get my head around this yet, got other stuff to deal with first ...

I’m sure @JR RS has the plastic one

Yup, I've got that hard cover for the battery.  Got it from AliExpress.

Yes, it doesn't sit tightly on top of the battery, but it stays wedged in place.

Your battery does not need to be insulated from the elements, any protection that a cover provides would be from underbonnet heat.

They are simply an aesthetic thing and I understand the desire for that, the exposed battery on my Yeti looked really odd surrounded by all the other covers and compared to its predecessor my MK2 Octavia which had the factory battery box and cover.

After carefully checking the battery tray which I reckon will be the same on your Superb I was fairly sure that the OE battery box and cover would fit, they are dirt cheap from Ali-Express and are genuine VAG parts produced in China for the Asian market vehicles, it fitted perfectly.

Almost as tidy as an AMG engine bay !😁
