Stock RARB vs Golf R RARB...

Featured Replies

Hi all,

Relatively new owner to Superb life and enjoying it. One mod I completed on my MK3 VRS was swapping rear anti roll bars, just the change from stock to a MK7 Golf GTi Clubsport bar worked wonders.

I'm keen to use OE parts if I can. On that guise, the stock Superb Sportline RARB seems to be 21.7 x 3mm. A very cheap option appears to be a Golf R RARB, 21.7 x 3.6mm.

Has anyone made this jump and can advise if its worth it?

Clearly the Superb needs to be 4x4 variant.  If front drove then the gold R bar won't fit.

The Golf R is AWD with a Haldex like the Superb. Id even go as far as saying its probably the same setup but the Superb is slightly detuned so not worried about it fitting.

Just not sure the difference is enough to make a noticeable difference.

The difference will be noticeable.  I have a whiteline adjustable bar on the rear set to hard and it's a big difference.

@Dooge - 21mm vs 21mm.....that's no difference.

U need to get something like 24mm or so for it to b an upgrade, and to notice a difference.

Superb 280 and Golf R use the same RARB.

Superb 220 and Golf GTi use the same RARB.

I've got Hardrace 25.4mm RARB on my Superb 220.

Made a massive difference.

@JR RS Surly a change in wall thickness would be noticeable?  The added material is 20% wall thickness.  It's on the inside wall of the tube so the difference would be about 14% additional stiffness.  How stiffer does it have to be to make it noticeable?  Looking at the numbers I suspect 14% isn't enough to make a huge difference unless you were really sensitive to it.  So yes a thicker bar (24mm+) is needed.

This was the worry, that the difference isnt enough.

My VRS difference was 18mm to 21.7mm so was a significant difference.

Unfortunately whilst its under warranty fitting something non OEM is likely to draw attention to itself.

Similar but not the same bar. The Golf R bar has a slightly thicker bar thickness, but theres not alot in it.
