Skoda Fabia 2016-2017 questions

Featured Replies

Hi all, I am currently looking into buying a Fabia and the one I’m looking at is a 66 plate 2017 registered white 1.2 TSI colour edition hatchback but it has 195,000 miles on it and I’m wondering if someone could post a service schedule on here of things it should have had done to it by 195,000 miles and if it’s even worth buying with that many miles on it, many thanks in advance.

Welcome.

Spark Plugs a few times like every 40,000 miles or in the last 40,000 miles.

Oil and filter every 20,000 miles or sooner.

Air Filter maybe twice.

Pollen Filter.

Brake Fluid.

If it is good, maybe new / recent brake parts, suspension, tyres etc, and the windscreen is in very good condition and not chipped or star spangled,

and it is cheap enough then maybe worth a punt.

This gives an idea of what Fixed Annual servicing looks like, but the car was maybe done on a variable / flexible regime.

Bottom in green was how it was back before 2020, so 2026/2017.

Hi, thanks that is brilliant and will come in very handy but what about timing belt and clutch as they are my biggest at the moment with it having that many miles, thanks in advance.

The clutch could have been done, but if no record of it then it needs done when it needs doing.

Not before really.

Cam belt advice changed last year but assuming it was not done then i would budget for having it done.

As my wife has owned a 2015 1.2 TSI from 10k-miles at about 18 months old, so 6.5 years and (another) 56k-miles I personally would not buy a 2017 Fabia Mk3 with 195k-miles on it (then I'd not buy a Mk3 Fabia or other VW or the other two German marques).  The probably high annual, mileage in itself isn't a bad thing, better in many ways than very low mileage and use vehicles but it's just about 200k-miles of use and wear, I'd expect to see a service history longer than my arm (s and legs) and history of lots of other work and maintenance, in addition to the car's condition and drive of course.

From what I've read on this site and generally heard the Mk3 doesn't seem to be as robust as the late MK2 let alone earlier Mk2s and it seems Mk1s might have easily the most robust.

Other models perhaps and certainly other marques of cars at that age and mileage would personally probably less concern and I personally would look at older cars especially with that sort of use..

Other opinions and experiences are available.

Plenty of information and experiences of 2016/17s on this forum also.

Good luck.

At that mileage it has to be very cheap to be worth considering. A few thoughts 195000 miles in 7.5 years is 25,000 per year. Not unreasonable I’ve had 3 cars that I’ve taken to 150,000 miles on annual mileages of 25k to 30k. Servicing will maintain normal wear and tear items, but it’s the other things: seat fabrics and support, carpets, wheel bearings, suspension bushes, gearbox oil, clutch, electric windows. At 195,000 the engine and transmission must be close to end of life. If the bodywork is really good and the price is low enough, it could be a bargain if you are prepared for fitting a lower mileage engine and from a crashed car in when something terminal happens to the engine. Good luck.  I
