Rear heated window no working

Featured Replies

Hello everyone,

we had our first frost of the year here in the Midlands last week. So, I needed to clear my rear window.

I have a 2016 Fabia Monte Carlo

The switch on the dashboard lights up and there is an audible click but the window wasnt clearing.

Ive checked fuse #41 as per the manual and that seems ok!

Ive been told it could be the relay!
I just need to check with you where the relays are located. You Tube videos show a panel on the dashboard down by the steering wheel on the right hand side.
I can’t find out what number the relay is for the rear window.

Can anyone help!

Many thanks

Forgot to add model of car

Hi Zoe, unfortunately there will not be a separate, pluggable relay for this. It will be built (soldered) into the body control module (BCM).

It may be a broken wire rather than a relay problem though. It would be sensible to check the wiring where it goes from car body into the tailgate, the flexion there can sometimes fracture wiring.

The feed and earth to the rear window heating is a red/black and a brown wire respectively, both reasonably thick.

Hi, welcome.

Just to confirm, fuse 41, F41 location in fuse box, in VW manuals is stated as "Heated rear window" - "30a", "30 A - green/pink" (assuming this is correct information from VW).

ETA: welcome

ETA: there's a scraper inside the fuel filler cap or you can use other, doing the job manually is very reliable and you can do the whole of the rear window and the other windows and door mirrors on the car as required.
