Car locked itself

Featured Replies

For the last few days my skoda octavia 2000  has been having problems unlocking.

The battery fob doesn't work even with new batteries so I have to put key in the door..

This evening when I shut the drivers door it locked itself which never done before.

Is this a easy fix or expensive.

Thanks in advance for any help

the car is supposed to lock itself after x time unless you have they key in ignition.

On a 2000 plate?

I had this car a year and never locked itself before

A car might lock itself after being unlocked and without opening any of the doors. It should never lock if a door has been opened. If it does re-lock after being unlocked and a door has been opened the door microswitch is probably faulty

If the car locks randomly on moving the drivers door, it is likely the wiring loom is damaged in the rubber boot somewhere and the car had registered a press on the 'lock' button on the door card.

as above - microswitch in thè lock mechanism is probably goosed.

new pattern part from i terwebs is only like 30quid. maybe less now.

hardest part about changing it is -

1) making sure you count the rings on the bowden cable so it doesnt feck up the handle tension (it wont work if too tight or too loose)

2) making sure the door is 100%sealed when the plastic is replaced.

I have this problem: I open the locks, open rear hatch (estate model) and pack some stuff in, car re-locks. I always thought it's normal as it doesn't do that if I open any other door.

So I have a faulty microswitch. No surprise, trunk lights are on or off really randomly.  Mostly off, but they might turn on while driving despite hatch being closed.

Bulbs out is the current kludge, but obviously it's time to replace the microswitch.

I think you might need a new or second hand mechanism as the switch is probably integrated like the doors.

It is probably worth doing some checks with a multimeter if you can though to rule out a broken wire or short out the corresponding wires in the connector to make sure the boot lights go on and off  reliably before you commit.
