Andre,

I'll listen to yours tomorrow and see what I think. Although its probably a lost cause as there are so many differences (head unit and speakers for a start).

Jon

For the older ones amongst us, what is "hard trance"? Is that the nts, nts, nts nova-boy stuff?

Just curious

I think the Brighouse and Rastrick Brass Band with a free cloth cap is more my stylee .....

Mmm, one double pepperoni and one Hawaiian please.

Hard Trance...a contradiction in terms I would have thought?

Is this similar to a hard stare, a hard gum, a hard time and a hard rain's a gonna fall?

Hardly....!!!

Well, my normal sound chappie has come up with a good offer for me, what do you reckon:

He'll install a Kenwood amp for me, then he let me try all his different subs to see which I like the sound of, with my music, in my car. :D

Does this amp sound like the right sort of thing?

Looks like the daddy amp to me Jon. :speaker: :speaker:

Wow. that's pretty good sounding spec. You have the 1ohm sub / speakers to run that? ;) They're probably good value for money too  Also, being class D, it won't drain your battery too much, leaving you with some spare amps which can be traded for horses :p

My recommendation for a circa

Xavier,

I already have components in the front with active crossovers, rear tweeters are disconnected and I have the E series Pioneer 6x9s in the rear all driven by a diddy little 600w Kenwood amp.

Head unit was a Sony with 10 disk changer. All of that has been in there since about 2 weeks after I got the car (just over 2 years).

Having had 4 hours in the car with my 4 year old son, knowing I have lots of these trips ahead, and enduring the free Jungle Book CD that came with the Daily Mail 6 times, I decided that DAB with CBeebies available was a good bet. So now I have the Blaupunkt Woodstock with 5 CD in dash changer.

All I'm really missing is a sub, really ummming an ahhing over it - I've done 125000 miles in the 2 years and haven't really missed it, but I do want more bass than the 6x9 can provide.

Ooops

Real sorry Jon, I was just too darn lazy to read your original post :ashamed:

Well, if it's just the bass you're after, then personally, I'd go for two 10 inchers in sealed boxes with a decent amp. If you move loads of stuff around in your boot, maybe worthwhile having a think on how they could be installed in a cubby hole / behind wheel arch or something and not have a box. Or, just have the sub (or two) in a big bass box which you can remove from the amp when you need the space.

Can't suggest much more than that.

Any opinions still required as I'm a little late to this thread?

Someone somewhere has previously mentioned JBL and I can recommend this stuff. I've got a few various bits and pieces of ICE in my Octy which is all a little old now (originally fitted in a Mondeo nearly four years ago).

Anyway a Kenwood head unit and graphic Eq (sitting where the "oddments" tray usually resides) are plumbed to fairly low spec Kenwood amp to drive the stock door speakers (with up graded JBL tweeters), then there's a JBL 10" sub box fed purely by a JBL 400 watt amp. Personally I think that with some decen tweeters to give that crisp edge and a sub, you can't go far wrong. Mid range speakers might sound basey when stationary but lose their oomph when road noise and all the rest come in to play on the move.

Anyway there you go.

Thanks for all your help guys :D

a 10" sub is best for tight, puncy bass (as you say you like trance...), so this is probably your best option. A 15" is perfect for deep rolling bass, such as R'n'B, and a 12" is just a good compromise.

1 10" sub will certainly finish off your system nicely, and will save bootspace. I recommend you spend about

I'd personally go for 2 10" RF punch subs, good bass without too much butt rumble.... the amps are needed for power handling... if you want a 'disposable' system then get an amp/sub all in one combo with industrial velcro fixings.. can always remove for the ASDA run...
