Rear wiper blade for L & K estate

Featured Replies

Ever since I got the car (with fewer than 100 miles on the clock), the rear wiper blade has juddered and missed bits of the glass. I finally got round to buying a new (Bosch A403H) blade from Amazon by inputting the reg no. But, although it’s the correct length (400mm), the connector is different. I’ve checked a number of wiper blade sellers and they all quote A403H or similar. Moreover, my local trusted motor factor said that is exactly the type he would have come up with. He said the Skoda number is 3V9 955 425A (which of course he doesn’t sell).

I can only surmise that the L & K is different to all the other post 2015 Superb estates.

Has anyone come across this problem and know which blade fits?

Many thanks

m

Hi,

I also have a Bosch A403H on the rear wiper of my Mk3 Estate (MY2018, built in octobre 2017).

It only judders when it's close to replacement time. I change it every 30000km (~20000 miles). Otherwise, it remains quite silent.

A tip could be to apply graphite powder on the blade. It's a dry lubricant which could help it slide silently. 😉

I've never done it, but maybe worth a try, since it's easy to clean if not efficient.

Thanks bap33. Juddering is curable. The problem is: Skoda seems to have changed the fixing so A403H no longer fits. I’m ringing my Skoda dealer today.

Before 13.03.2023 it was 3V9955425

After this date it is now 3V9955425A

(for estates)

I cant find any aftermarket version as of yet, so it seems genuine is the only way for the time being.

Thanks ApertureS. Since I was passing, I went into Skoda Gloucester to buy one. The service manager didn’t have one and was pretty cross about the fact that Skoda keep changing the fixing for no apparent reason (I can’t see one!).

Anyway, he confirmed that the suffix ‘A’ is the vital info. Since it’s not a high cost item it’s hardly worth making a special trip and I shall wait until the car needs to be serviced if I can’t buy it online.

i wonder if it’s an Audi A6 or Passat blade…

Would it be worth/possible to replace the wiper arm to the old part which would take the old fitting/clip?

Or is the clip integrated into the assembly or can it be swapped between the old & new blade?

I'd imagine the OEM blade is 3x the price of the 3rd party version from Bosch/Hella/Conti?

My superb is 1 year old and I have the same problem with the rear blade.

If it was changed in March 2023 it's surprising that there aren't aftermarket parts from the usual suppliers available already.

The newer blade is roughly £18

I also checked this, sadly no other car has this blade on it.

the 3V dictates a Skoda superb, the 9 dictates the body type as estate (some part numbers are still used on different cars, but not in this case)

Thanks for checking that (I’ve no idea how to!).
I contemplated a swap of the connectors but they seem to be pressed on and, even if I got them off, I’d never be able to replicate the pressing. Imagine if it came off whilst wiping…..

I’ve also thought about changing the rubber. Anyone tried that?

TBH I’d rather have a Skoda one.

It's hard to understand why Skoda engineers have changed the design from March 2023, considering the Mk3 was already about to end its career. Mk4 had been already well known at this time...

Not a good idea for costs killing or customers either. 🙄

  • 1 month later...

I just bought a Bosch  A403H for a noisy 2023 rear wiper, I thought I had bought in error as I have 2x 2018 and 1x2023, I made it fit which I wouldn't recommend.

Having read this thread I went out with ruler in hand and I can't find any reason for it to have changed , its the same sweep same profile...

My next step will be to buy a new (old) arm which is £10 and currently out of stock,

This was my first thought...

Where are you buying the previous version of the arm from?

I'm going to pop into Skoda on Friday to see if they'll replace my blade under warranty & if not what they want for a new blade compared with a previous level arm.

Do you have the part number for the old wiper arm?

Do you know if it's different between the estate and hatchback?

Dear Gabbo

You will find the part numbers further up this thread.

i really couldn’t tell you whether there is a difference between hatch and estate.

The motor is a common fault

  • 3 weeks later...

I've a 2015 Scout. Had it 3 years.

Rear wiper has always squarked/juddered over the glass. Replaced the blade ever year (c. 10k miles per year) with various premium blades. Makes no difference to the noise. I've also had a new arm fitted. Still squarks.

I've asked the Skoda dealer in Northampton, they had no clue unsurprisingly.

With metal arm wipers the trick that works every time is to very slightly twist the metal wiper arm (using two adjustable spanners, to tune the blade drag angle over the glass (been driving for 47 years always maintained my own cars, except 17 yrs of company cars including 4 other Octys).

The rear Scout arm is plastic so this tweak is not possible.

However I'm considering heating the rear arm enough to allow a slight twist. I think a hot air gun might work if applied very carefully.

Its strange that there still isnt an aftermarket part for this.

The same arm seems to be used on the Superb Mk3 >2023, Superb Mk4, Octavia Mk4 & some other newer models?

Skoda-Parts reference the rear wiper arm as:  5JJ 955 707 A or 5JJ 955 707 but you cannot choose which one.

I assume the A in part number will be for the "new blade" mounting & the one without the suffix will be the old part.

Wiper Arm Škoda 5JJ955707A

I've emailed them to ask if its possible to have the pre-2023 part, will see what they say.

@Millster its a while since you posted but do you have any pictures of the new fixing versus the A403H ?
Is it something that can be disassembled from the blade to fix to another?

Usually aftermarket blades come with several clips in the box to attached them to different models/manufacturers.

Gabbo

Some more digging & there seems a completely new part number for the post  Q1 2023 wiper arm.

So it would seem 5JJ955707A would be the part to go for which would take the Bosch A403H (also ties in with the dates for the blade part number change posted by ApertureS)

Here is some information regarding the different wiper arm attachments between the old & new part.

The original part from my car is on top in the photo & the bottom is a Bosch A403H.

The Skoda part sits flush to the arm without the end cap of the Bosch part but you can see from the photo they are not compatible.

image.jpeg.98b8a1a8d47ed1958e835e853b9ea24d.jpeg

I tried to remove the locking cover/adapter to see if I could just swap this part to the Bosch blade & keep the old fitting but its not possible.

The holes line-up but the spigots are much thinner on the Bosch part so it doesn't sit tight on the Bosch blade. (see adapter in the photo below)

I'm still waiting for the new wiper arm to arrive, so it the meantime, I have "reversed" the original blade by cutting of the small tag in the middle of the adapter & refitting it in the other direction. The small tag in the middle of the photo below next to the text >POM< ensure the adapter is always fitted the same direction on the blade.

After a couple of days the wiper has been silent (but its not rained here so its difficult to tell).

This will do until the replacement part arrives hopefully next week.

Hi Gabbo - great info - thanks!  Any update on the new wiper arm?

I'm looking for a similar fix for the rear wiper for my MkIII Superb Estate.  Bosch state replacement blade is A405H, but only A403H sold in the UK.  And of course that does not fit!

I've ordered it from Skoda-Parts but my order is delayed until next week because something else I ordered is not in stock & on back order.

I will post an update hopefully next week when it arrives with some pictures.

Gabbo

Thanks. I see that Skoda.Parts has a Skoda genuine and cheaper after-market arm............

I also cannot find any info or stock for the A405H blade either 😞 in Germany or Switzerland

I ordered the genuine part as my car is less than 1 year old.

But I guess for this kind of component a cheap after market part would be enough.

I will keep the original arm and hopefully when the aftermarket parts become available, I may switch back to the newer part.

I guess Skoda will use it on other models so eventually Bosch etc will make any adapter for it.

The could even support it easily with the A403H if they just provided a plastic adapter in the box like they do with other blades.

I was informed by SkodaParts on Friday that my missing item should arrive in stock next week so fingers crossed by the weekend I can give an update on the new arm

  • 4 weeks later...

My parts are on the way today so I'm hoping to recieve before the weekend & I'll send some pictures of the differences in the parts
