Weird Issues with 2019 2.0 SE TSI Auto

Featured Replies

Hi all, long time lurker on the forum, finally signed up as having some very odd issues with my 2019 Octavia

Basically, here's what happens from when I start it

Temp guage reaches 90 VERY quickly, like less than 2mins of driving. My oil temp reading on the display doesn't match it at all.

When accelerating (especially noticeable when starting off) I can hear faint grinding noise, and the gear changes feel horrible

My fuel consumption is through the roof, motorway runs where I'd be getting 50+mpg are now 25mpg

Stop/start system doesn't work, it claims the engine needs to be on (yeah, don't get that one....)

Hot air is coming through the air vents even when it's all switched off

When I've finished driving the fan stays on for at least 2mins (read about this on diesels, but mine is a petrol) and can smell a burning smell. It's also pretty warm but can't quite pinpoint what it is

Now it gets more weird. Its happened a total of 3 times since owning the car (1 year)

First time I needed new brakes and pads all round, did this

Second time (4 months later) it magically stopped by itself and went back to normal

Third time (now) has been doing it for 5 weeks or so

2 garages haven't been able to work out what it is and I'm trying here to see if anyone has any ideas or suggestions before I have to go to Skoda directly.

Do your worst folks! Thanks all

Welcome.

Sounds like you need to go to another garage.

Your car might be having issues because of the GPF, maybe this is to do with the high petrol consumption.

The Oil temperature is going to take a few miles to get to an indicated 50*oC and then to the 92 *oC or higher,

They should not match as in the coolant and the oil other than when both at near 90*oC.

How many miles has the car done? Were the Spark Plugs replaced at 40,000 miles or so.  & is there a clean air filter fitted.

A DQ381 DSG is due an oil & filter change at 80,000 miles or sooner.

Car has done 40194 miles

Will have to check on the spark plugs (it just had an interim service)

Can you get it scanned for fault codes, although I'd have expected the 2 garages to have done that?

Yeah they have done that, and nothing comes up. No warnings at all on the dash either

One extra thing, the front right wheel, when putting my hand above it, is definitely warmer than the other 3 (once I've parked up)

Is this a manual or DSG gearbox?

Didn't read head title fully.

Hello fellow 190 TSI owner! 😊

Have you removed the silica bag from the coolant reservoir? If not, have you checked it hasn't split, and leaked silica particles through your cooling system?

Can you clarify this sentence please: "Hot air is coming through the air vents even when it's all switched off"?

Slightly randomly, what's the "Green Car" readout on the main display saying when the car is playing up? Does it know you're getting terrible MPG?

When you say the gear changes feel horrible, can you elaborate on "horrible" please?

I'd be inclined to take it to a specialist VAG independent rather than a Skoda dealer, as I fear their solution might be a parts replacement lottery, played at your expense until until the problem goes away.

I'm not sure if the brake problem is coincidental or related, but I'd be tempted to get the brakes stripped and cleaned, rather than just have the disks and pads replaced, especially with that front offside wheel getting unusually warm.

Hi,

Experiencing exactly the same with my Octavia. Happening a couple of times per year the last 3 years or so. Did you find out what the problem is?

I gave up with the car and part exchanged it in the end
