Poor quality brakes?

Featured Replies

Hi everyone, has anyone any insight as to the quality of the brake components Skoda use. I have an issue with the brakes making an abrasive noise which resembles the noise of using the brakes after it's been raining when surface rust has formed. This has been present since taking delivery in December 2023. Normally this noise doesn't occur after the first applied braking, but the noise on my 2023 Kodiaq still persists. When I reported this to the dealer  I was told I am not using the brakes enough and to carry out a few emergency stops. I have tried this but to no avail and can only assume that the quality of materials used in the brake components are rubbish. I am seriously considering changing the complete braking system with Brembo. Does anyone have any comments?

I'm on my fifth Kodiaq and, yes, they do grumble a little when they've been left standing a while in the rain but they soon clear.

Oh, and your car is a mk 1 not a mk 2.

That usually is the case, but mine are like this all the time at low speed braking.

Take it back to the dealer for a warranty replacement.

Or at least go and do a test drive with another car. If it sounds differently...

I am having same issues on Kodiaq 2025.. My mechanic which is not allowed to touch car also immediatly said that brake discs are making strange noise while moving the car.

Also when i check rear disc i see that it started making strange lines

@vran22

This looks like braking pads issue, not disc issues.

Considering the costs, you could try to change the pads, see if makes any difference.

@Petetheheat

Before changing everything, try changing the pads first. Cheaper and might solve the issue. Go for quality ones, usually softer.
