cam belt and water pump?

Featured Replies

Hi, i have a 02 octy 1.9tdi it has done 65000miles is the cam belt due and is it really necessary to change the water pump at the same time? Any ideas as to where i can pick up the cam kit at a reasonable price? Also since i bought the car it has suddenly gone sluggish my one is only a 90 brake:thumbdwn: any ideas? i,ve gone through the entire site and mine seems quite a common problem with a few possible cures, where should i start? Best Wishes, Richy:confused:

Yes do it do it now for the cam belt.

As for the water pump, I'm just trying tow woek out that myself.

If the water pump powereed by the cam belt you may as well chang it for a revised part with metal and not plastic impellors as these tend to fail and would damage the cambelt and engine if they failed badly. If it is driven by an aux belt then you can wait if you like as you will just need a new pump and aux belt in all likelyhood.

Sluggish performance, change the air filter and clean out the air box, try cleaning the MAF using Isopropyl Alcohol, you will find instructions on a search on here and also don't forget that hot weather will affect things a bit.

The 90bhp doesn't have the variable vane turbo charger of the 110, so it won't be the sticking turbo vanes, which is a good thing :)

Oh and Welcome to briskoda

I diddnt change the water pump at cam belt time, because I haddn't been on here at that time

Having said that the car has now done nearly 100k miles (25k of which were after a remap and with a heavy right foot) on the original pump.

Fingers crossed.

Personally ive not had a TDi water pump fail, its not the same sort as the 1.8T.

I bow to the man with greater experience of these things but on the other hand anything driven by the cambelt that's done 60,000 miles & might fail COULD have disaterous consequences & for the sake of circa £30 when you've already got the belt off .... ?? :)

Well I did the pump anyway ! :P

I'm probably way off but is the water pump similair to the 1.4 Tdi Polo one at all ??? My cousins had one failed before.

My old Seat Toledo (Now donated to a friend) with the same 90 bhp engine has over 180,000 miles on the origional water pump and still going strong.

A friend of mine with an Octavia 1.9 SDi had a water pump fail while towing a caravan in Ireland. The engine overheated leading to cylinder head gasket failure. The subsequent repair bill came to circa
