Heater only works on number 4

Featured Replies

It looks like the heater control resistor pack may have failed on my 21 plate estate.

Was wondering why I wasn't noticing any heat when driving to work.

Turns out that the blower only works on number 4 with all others not blowing heat into the cabin.

Does anyone know the part number for this resistor pack and also are there any guides for changing it on a mk3 fabia?

Appears to be  6Q0 959 263 A but do check this is correct, buying a "cheap" version, like with many parts, can turn out to be a mistake.

Quick search -

Checked on skoda parts UK and it is the right part number. They wanted £84 for it. Went onto Ebay and searched the part number and got it for £12.50

Thanks for the information 👍

Personally I'd check the £12.50 one is a good quality part, a good reliable make as I think, as with fitting many parts on a car, fitting this part is a bit of an awkward PITA farting about job that you might not want to repeat too soon.  £84 sounds more than I remember from previously but £12.50 sounds too "cheap" and "cheap" often works out more expensive and hassle.  If unsure I'd cancel the order.

A lot of places, including large parts supplies sell parts using the manufacturers part number but the part(s) offered are copies and some of low quality and durability and longevity.

The part from eBay came with a 12 month warranty. Got the old one out and the new one in (took about 20 minutes after finding my t15 screwdriver) now got working heating again 👍

The warranty isn't the issue it's the PITA of taking the part out again and refitting its replacement - but you might be lucky the £12.50 part might be as good as any others.  As a generalisation cheap Chinese parts can be very good but it's more of a gamble - not that I know if your £12.50 part is Chinese made.  Hopefully it will last a very long time.

Of course there is the possibility that the motor bearing is "not good" so the motor is drawing higher than "normal" current - and if that is the case, that new speed controller will suffer the same fate as the original one - also make sure that the pollen filter is changed.

Did you try spinning the motor over with your fingers when the speed controller first failed?
