Octavia 1.5 e-tec: Should ICE fire up straight away on switching on the car?

Featured Replies

Hi,

I have purchased a used Octaiva MK4 1.5 e-tec, 2021. The combustion engine fires up straight away on switching on the car. The car being a mild hybrid, shouldn't it start in electric mode until the need for combustion engine? Looking for a confirmation from other drivers of the same engine.

Thanks 🙂

Yes that's correct, the actual drive is from the ICE, but before I put the car into gear, it should remain in electric mode like other hybrid cars I would guess?

Forget what a 3 cylinder 1.0 TSI MHEV does.

But the similarity is the 1.5 TSI does need to fire up.  The engine can stop while coasting, and you can have drive from the battery.  EV mode only.

It is not the same as a PHEV though for running in EV mode.

Alas not.The 48V battery is there to support the ICE only so all the drive is from the ICE. The only time you can drive in EV mode is when coasting , which can be for a surprising distance.
